I am in the market for some new tires on one of my trucks. Looking for recommendations on 10 ply tires for a dually. Either a mud grip, or a highway. Just need something that will get decent tread life, and 10 plys. I've had michelin, bfg, buckshot, falken, hankook. But I haven't bought a new set in years, usually just buy factory take offs. That's not an option on this truck, as I need 235/85r16, and there aren't anymore trucks that come in that size. Needless to say, when I started looking at new tires I got sticker shock...  So I have come to the ethd think tank to see what yall recommend.

yea price is a killer now, i used to get new tires for 400 bucks now im at 1000 a set for basic

For the money I like the Hankook danapro m/t. You can get them in 8&10 ply. I have a single wheel 1ton 4x4 and pull a 10-15k lb.  dozer And it's the only tire I've gotten to hold up since my truck is single wheel in the rear.  And I'm running 315/70-17.

Do not go with Super Swampers ;D I have to switch to what I call city boy mud tires. I did lots of searching and found a deal on Goodyear by going an inch taller and an inch wider. I put in the rim size and then started playing with the width and diameter. It takes more time because tire stores want to make more money but sit down at the computer and go to the tire stores and search by tire size and the tires you want just not the truck. The time is worth it unless your Bill Gates.

Chris im running a set of Dunlop Fierce right now and so far im very pleased. I have about 10000 miles on them and they are wearing real nice. But if I could afford it I would have a set of street tires on right now besides the deep sand I don't need them!

yokohama geolanders have been doin pretty good on my dually,and Ive tried several different brands of tires and the geolanders seem to be gettin better tread life than anything else so far.

x2 on the hankook. I have had a set for 1.5 years with 54k on them now and i think they will go for another 20k. very pleased with them so far. found the best deal at discount tire of all places :P

 Take a look at the Cooper Discoverer SST's, our truck is 17's but they may come in 16's. They have been great tires. We have been using these tires for a while and we are still happy with them.

Kelly safari tsr's handle well in the mud and on the highway, they are hands down the best tires i have come across so far.

to me they handle a dream when your on a trail, but on the road its like a chopper comin down

I own a shop and we do is lift and lower trucks. I have used and see it all as for tires.  If your looking for a good a/t go with toyo there are badass and last long long time. If you want something little more aggressive M/t go with BFF km2. I use these on my duramax and love them! Im hauling all the time and get about 50k miles out of them.

I have the nitto dura grappler not the terra grappler. They come in a 10ply they are good priced wide square cut tire.

Which Toyo?  I called about the Toyo M55, but they were priced at well over $300.00 per tire.  Same shop priced the Dunlop Fierce at $202.00 installed.

I have the BFG KM2 on my 02 Dodge 3/4 ton and they are wearing OK.

I ran BFG all terrains on my diesel.  I took full advantage of the warranty and discount tire when it was time to replace.  They didnt wear very good on my truck but its hard to beat the warranty.

what she said! Im putting 37x12.5x17's on my dodge dually today, ive had 2 set before these and my familiy's company puts these on almost all of our 3/4 and 1 ton work trucks. they are hard to beat

Cooper SST, or STT?

Chris i put the cooper stt on my wifes truck and they are a great tire if you keep them rotated you should get close to 45 - 50 k out of a set.

I had a set of 285/70/17 cooper stt on my 1/2 ton Chevrolet and I got around 45000 before they were wore out. I really liked them but am always up for something new so now I'm running 255/80/17 bfg km2s and have 36000 with good wear so far. The km2s seem like they will outlast the coopers at least on my truck. Idk about the ply ratings on either tire. I'd recommend either one though

Toyo open country A/T. There the best all around tire.  The nitto terra grappler STAY far away from those. The wear so fast.

I've had the best luck with Toyo open country M/T and BFG KM2 and now the Nitto Trail Grappler which is the same as the Toyo open country M/T. Toyo and Nitto are the same company.

Thanks for all the suggestions... I ended up going with a tire that hasn't been mentioned. BFG Commercial Traction. Not real aggressive, but better than a highway rib. Discount tire is running a tax free special this weekend, as well as a rebate BFG is offering.  Online reviews are pretty good so I figure I'll try them and see how I like them. Supposed to have them installed tomorrow afternoon, I should know in a few months if it was the right choice.
