Title: Quick hunt Post by: ROCKIN ROO HOG DOGS on February 08, 2009, 09:43:36 pm Made quick run Saturday night,First big boar didnt have spectacular teeth but cut every dog with in reach,my mick dog rolled out and opened up on a group of about 20,they were packed tight in a thicket and we finally picked off a sow that went about 200,left her for the coyotes.

Title: Re: Quick hunt Post by: ROCKIN ROO HOG DOGS on February 09, 2009, 07:31:54 am Logan, the curs are blackmouths from an old line of dogs out of mineral wells, one of the catchdogs is an American bulldog and the other is 1/2 pit 1/2 dogo. The red pup is a 9 month old ridgeback that belongs to my little huntin buddy chris london,he is taking on the traits of a running catchdog more than anything.

Title: Re: Quick hunt Post by: BOBDOG on February 10, 2009, 02:26:33 am What, If you don't mind me asking is that line of curs like?
They look like they would be rough. Are they catchy? What would you say they weigh? Hunt, deep, close, or medium? For a cur, hot nosed, cold, or medium? Do they tend to be "watch dog like" I have been studying different lines of cur dogs and always curious about family breed dogs Thanks for any info you can send my way. Bob Title: Re: Quick hunt Post by: ROCKIN ROO HOG DOGS on February 10, 2009, 12:17:11 pm Bob,those dogs are close to medium range if working ground sign or tracks, but if they wind a hog they may bay him a mile down the road so i would say exceptional noses in the wind and mildly hot on the ground. They weigh about 85-90 pounds and stay in hunting condition year round. They are rough even though both have been cut a lot,if they are baying its a group or a boar over 300,anything else is caught much to the bulldogs dismay. On the watchdog side you couldnt ask for more,if bills old dog cooney is roaming around the house you best stay in the truck till bill comes out,if you raise one of these pups with a small child they will protect them forever and i know bill encourages that in his line but they are not people aggressive out of their own territory, nor are they dog aggressive. The females out of this line are also big and make tremendous house and watchdogs and all of them are working cattle dogs so the handle on them is through the roof, just all round great dogs to have around, jimmy.

Title: Re: Quick hunt Post by: BOBDOG on February 11, 2009, 10:42:07 pm Thanks for the reply, would you say, in your opinion, that some one could do protection (manwork) with dogs from this line?
Title: Re: Quick hunt Post by: TT on February 11, 2009, 10:44:54 pm i realy dont know sry, theyl prob do wat ever you put in front of em to do, there not dumb dogs at all
Title: Re: Quick hunt Post by: ROCKIN ROO HOG DOGS on February 12, 2009, 12:17:14 pm Bob,i dont think this line nor any other cur lines would be the best dog for manwork protection. There is still a level of intimidation in these dogs and they remember it like it was yesterday.Cur dogs,in my opinion no matter what level it is,will always fall back on this trait especially towards humans, they can be submissive a little to quick and are easily domianted.Even a dog that wont back down from a 300 pound hog will put its tail between its legs when spanked by a 3 yr old child, not claiming to know squat about the manwork but have yet to see a cur stand its ground on command.
