My "ideal" of a vacation and my wifes are substantially different to say the least....  ;) ;D

Yall ever seen the documentary of this remote, Inuit village way out on the edge of Alaska... the people of the village SURVIVE on what they gather during the year... over the millenia, they have developed a technique, by which, they lay on the side of steep shorelines and wait for returning "Puffins" to come back in to roost after fishing all day...

..... as the birds skim the face of the island, the native people lay on their back with a hand made "landing net"... and scoop up fat Puffins as they come by....  :D

.... Once they have collected enough... they return to the center of the village.... clean the birds, and STUFF THEM INTO THE BODY OF A DEAD SEAL.... I love this part....  ;D

...AT WHICH POINT... they wrap the whole mess up into a tarp, dig a hole in the permafrost... and bury the sucker for one year.....

.... ONE YEAR LATER....  ;D

... The whole village turns out for this "festive" occasion...   the Puffin stuffed Seal has, at this point, become an ice cold molten mess of candy apple red blood and goo.... which the village children dive into as if it were a pin'ata at a birthday party  :o ;D   

... Once the kids get their fix, the rest of the village comes in to clean up the rest of the feast... finger lickin' good....  ;) ;D


SO BACK TO MY POINT... Wife wants to take a cruise to the Bahamas... I want to go hang out with the Inuits...  ;)

Seal no problem... polar bear no problem as long as you don't wanna bring it back across the border... or it(was) a 20K price tag to get it back here to stuff...

... The natives have some amazing traditional trapping techniques for them... I used to spend a LOT of time in the Eskimo/Inuit wing of the museum... they got killin' down to an art....  ;)

I might pass on the goo festival, but seeing the northern lights is on my list to do one of these days. I would like to learn some of those old hunting techniques though i'm always trying to teach myself to be the next bear grylls

In WWII the Japanese invaded oart of the Alaskan Islands. The army was in trouble with the cold and could not get food in to feed the soldiers. The locals showed them how to catch and preserve fish. They taught them how to live in the cold. The locals "joined" the army and lead the way to drive the Japanese off the islands. Any people that can live up there year round without any outside help are some tough people. I would have to say tougher than Noah. While Noah may want to eat the goo they came up with the recipe!

I would have to agree... the Inuits are about as tough as tough gets...

The Inuit also break out this bird delicacy for whenever they get married..  :)
I also liked the huge fish they catch to feed their dogs.
But it was funny when they were trying to show how they still live like they did 100 years ago and then they show them all riding across the ice on their snowmobiles.. lol

Only time since the revolution this country was occupied.  The inuits are tough SOBS, the islands off the coast are some of the toughest places on the planet (learned alot about alaska from my ex. She wanted to go to sight see, i wanted to kill stuff.   ;D)  NOah id take that trip with ya.  Id be the one standing in the back of the line laughing my a$$ off holdin the video camera when you came up covered in goo..  :D

you florida boys ain't got a chance , ya'll will be popcicles 15 minutes after you get of the plane !   now me , i'm a tennesean it would take me 18 minutes , if my grandaddy wasn't a cracker i could make it 22 minutes ... just sayin  ;D

Noah, adapt the Inuit tradition "TEXAS STYLE",,,, say, net a bunch o dove ,, or quail,,, stuff em in a gutted hog, bury the whole mess for a year,, then have a ethd annual festival and dig it up, you be the Master of Ceramony's. Guess it wouldnt work so well without the permafrost,,,,

I have gone and filled a cooler up with doves, drove it home and stuffed the freezer. I was eating doves a year later. But there was not goo unless you count catchup. ;D Now that I can handle.
