Title: Mole Huntin Post by: WayOutWest on August 27, 2011, 11:17:33 am I am sitting on my deck with a cup of coffee, a bowl of oatmeal and my 12 guage waiting for the mole in my wifes flower bed. [I live in Washington St.] Do you think I might be a redneck?
Title: Re: Mole Huntin Post by: Purebreedcolt on August 27, 2011, 11:19:19 am Lol I used to stick a water hose in their burrow and wait for them to come out was kinda fun lol

The ones here in Caddo county don't keep thr head out of the hole but for a split second and back in. We killed I think six that one day. I don't think nothin excites him more than a fresh gopher mound lol

Title: Re: Mole Huntin Post by: firemedic on August 29, 2011, 04:07:29 pm Good idea danger,.....I remember many years ago a guy out on Sand Mountain had groundhog problems in his pasture. For those of you that aren't familiar with a 'groundhog'....that's southern for woodchuck. Back then gas was about 25 cents a gallon so it was no concern at all. We took some gas, waterhose, funnels and shovels out to this guy's pasture on a groundhog removal mission.
There were several holes out in his pasture the groudhogs had made, so we took a length of waterhose with a funnel on the end, ran it down the hole and poured in some gas, did this to every hole. I was elected to be the light it off man, so I ran me a line of gas out from a hole as a wick, covered the hole behind me with a round pointed shovel so as not to blister my rear if the flame shot out that hole. I lit a match and tossed it toward my wick of gas......now one often forgets just how fast gas will burn on top of the ground,....WHOOOOOOOSH. There was about a nano-second delay then the Earth shook and a great BLOOOOOOOMMMM could be heard across most of that part of the mountain. Large flames shot about 8 feet out of every hole in that area......we were kinda stunned and addled. I was just standing there in awe of the spectacle of it all......then I hear this faint sound,.....swooooop, swooop, swoop,...SWOOP, SWOOP, SWOOP.....I can't quite make out what it is and then as I'm turning to get a better fix on where it's coming from, cause it's getting louder by the second.....I see that the shovel I'd put over that hole behind me is missing. Thank the Lord that he gave us the best computer/calculator right between our ears and mine is telling me that I need to run and not be long about it.....but where to? I'm afraid to look up and have this shovel split my head wide open.....so....eventually my legs take over and I light out and hope for the best....I make it about 10 feet or so and the shovel hits the ground near where it left from.....We kinda stand around dumb-founded looking at everyone to see if they're on fire or anything......all is well and we are very happy to be in one piece after that little episode. We later learn that the farmer has no more issues with groundhogs and is happy as a dead pig in the sunshine with the job we did......and that was my last job as a groundhog removal expert..... ??? Title: Re: Mole Huntin Post by: Noah on August 29, 2011, 08:52:56 pm That's pretty funny ;D
... My best gyp Shiner can find one, dig him up, and swallow him before you can load another shell in.... :o .... She's developed a taste for them I guess ;D Title: Re: Mole Huntin Post by: sfboarbuster on August 29, 2011, 08:56:56 pm I worked on a golf course for a year or so, those moles could do some damage.
Stomp their hole down real good.... Then wait a few minutes, you will see the dirt start to move as they come up to get air, then dig 'em up. Works like a charm Title: Re: Mole Huntin Post by: firemedic on August 29, 2011, 09:02:58 pm My granddad had some mole traps....wish I had gotten them after he died. You mashed the dirt down on their run and set this trap over the flat place you made, when the mole came along and pushed the dirt back up it tripped the pan and the trap, which was spring loaded and had some spikes that pointed down, and they slammed down into the ground and the mole, thus spearing it and killing it....it was cool as all get out. >:D
Title: Re: Mole Huntin Post by: WayOutWest on August 29, 2011, 11:01:00 pm I got him yesterday morn. 12 ga. no. 2 shot magnums.
Title: Re: Mole Huntin Post by: mod93dirt on August 29, 2011, 11:31:59 pm I've got two pups right now that I will rent out to people with mole problems. However I am not liable for any yard damage that may occur. When I let them out in the evenings they go straight to work sniffing the ground and before too long they are digging. They have got three that I have actually seen. And Judging by the holes in my yard, they have probably got more. Not real happy with the holes in my yard, but am glad to see my young pups using their nose and showing some hunt drive, so I am overlooking the holes for now. Just hope they get after the pigs just as good.
