Title: RIP April
Post by: levibarcus on September 25, 2011, 10:22:33 pm
I went Friday night to a spot we have been hunting for a few weeks trying to get some hogs off before deer season for the landowner. I just had LJ and April and my buddy Dusty brought a couple of dogs. My two struck at a feeder and went about 500 yd and jumped the hog. They ran him back to us about 200 yd and bayed up. We got about 60 yd from them and I heard the hog make a run and a dog hollered. The curs all piled on when she hollered so we cut the cds loose. We got him tied and started checking dogs. April was laying in the creek by some water and was in bad shape. She had gotten hit just inside the point of her shoulder in the chest. We tried to get her out to the truck but she didn't make it.

I hated to lose her, she was just over a year old and had only been on maybe 10 hogs but was keeping up or passing up the older dogs already. She was half cat and half parker cur out of some proven bloodlines. I had high hopes for her. I guess I'm back to looking for a pup out of good proven blood to start this fall. It really set me back in my plans for my pack.

Sorry I don't have pics because I don't have internet service on my computer any more, just on my phone. The boar weighed 160 but had some wicked sharp teeth about 2 in long. He got what he had coming and I am going to clean the skull up and bleach it.

I'll post pics if I get a chance.

Levi,

Michael sent me a text and told me the bad news.  Sorry to hear it.  That cross seemed to work out well from what Michael has told me.  To bad June isn't still around or we could make some more.

RIP April...

Kevin O.

Kevin, I have talked to a few folks that have littermates to her and they are all pleased with them. She would run a track before she even knew what a bay was.
