Title: Neutering Question
Post by: jimco on September 27, 2011, 03:31:40 pm
Dropping my Pitt x Cur  catch dog off at the vet Thursday to get fixed. He's about 12 to 15 months old. What kind of weight gain can I expect and how quick? I want to order a catch vest but don't know if I should weight and see if he get's any bigger because of the neutering.

My two year old bulldog was cut when he was young.  He is really heavy and it is hard to keep weight off of him.  I don't know how he would be today if he was not cut, but I bet he would be thinner.  I ordered a Medium vest for my last bulldog, my current bulldog (the one mentioned above) fill the medium out and he could wear a large.  I do know dogs that have been cut and their weight was not affected at all.

Can't say how much he will weigh, but they tend to need to eat about a third less than what they were eating before surgery.

Jimco,

I would hold off.  I have an extra that may fit him.  When he's ready to catch again we will put it on him and see.  That should buy you enough time to see how his body reacts to the neutering.
