Title: Good Hunt.... 10.15.11
Post by: Noah on October 15, 2011, 01:55:09 pm
Alright.... for all of you who haven't been secretly spying on my photobucket account... here's the goods from today, hope you enjoy ;D (for the rest of you, kiss my a$$  ;) ;D )

So, rancher told us this would probably be the last hunt of the year as they are big into the goats... so I gave my "A-Team" a pep talk as we loaded up this morning in the dark... It was a gorgeous morning, 48 at the house, light wind.... heavy humidity... ranch is still real wet which made for tough tracking for the dogs, as most of it is in several inches of standing water... but still magaged to do good!

Dropped Shine and Spinner out first, walked with them into a big block and they acted like they could not smell a dang thing... not looking good  :(  Eased over to another big edge and they pulled off and bayed solid up on a growed over chop... could tell by the sound of the bay it must be a good'n  ;D

... Eased in and I decided to leave Bucho with Lee(told him I'd give him the secret signal "Kah-KAAHH.. Kah-KAAHHH" when I was ready  ;D ) and slip in to try and get some video as where they had him bayed up was fairly open for this place... got in and found my girls "spinning" this ol' boy like a top(pun intended  ;) ;D )...

..Got some good video and called in the heavy artillery....  ;D  .... Drum roll please...

(http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm192/aprilcmetzger/th_VIDEO0012.jpg) (http://s296.photobucket.com/albums/mm192/aprilcmetzger/?action=view&current=VIDEO0012.mp4)

Old boar, visibly had his cutter's broke off in the past but had re-grown... good mature boar
(http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm192/aprilcmetzger/IMAG0044.jpg)

So got him killed, and back out to the truck to hear the rancher had seen another good boar pop out down the road and thought we could put out on him... hauled butt down to the spot and kicked Shine, Spinner, and Camo out... Camo took the correct track... The "A-Team" took what we "thought" was the backtrack...  ;D

About 10min later, hear A-Team bay up and break, bay up and break... saw what looked to be another good boar cross way down the road into a bad thick area with the girls on his a$$ and it was on like donkey kong...  ;D

They bayed him up about a half mile in on the edge of a patch of sawgrass and some bad-to-the-bone palmettos... not a "prime" spot to try and catch one to say the least...

(http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm192/aprilcmetzger/th_VIDEO0015.jpg) (http://s296.photobucket.com/albums/mm192/aprilcmetzger/?action=view&current=VIDEO0015.mp4)

Shine heard me get close and tried him, he was a bad one, ran down Shine and Spin both and got them both hard... hog broke and saw the girls cross out in front of us and they were both still moving good, so we gave chase...

They bayed him up a couple more times, but this son of a gun knew where the worst thickets were and made sure to bay up at every one of them... each time, we'd get within' a few yds and decide to bump the hog out as it was just to bad of a spot to try and catch one... tight, tight spots that a bad boar could wreck the dogs in... WELL, the last time we did it(throwing tree branches into the bushes trying to juke him out  ;D )... the boar broke and I guess ol' Shine had had enough and caught his a$$ about a hudred yds away... cut Bucho to her and it was a done deal...

No where near as big as the other boar but man he was bad... both Shine and Spin look like pin cushions... nothing bad but that sucker was baaaad....

Shine looks worse than she is here(that white shows blood good  ;D )... got her ear split and it was bleedin' like hell.... but this is a funny shot, in that, as I was takin' a picture Lee heard a hog charging into to us through the palmettos right over my shoulder...  :o :o  ... Shine was ready to go  ;)

Nice videos and sounds like a heck of a hunt. I really like the looks of Bucho and his demeanor going to the bay.

What happened one of these Texas boys sent a shirt for your kids and you thought it was for you? :D

Good hunt, those ear cuts suck, take forever to heal. Hope your dogs heal up quick.

HAHA, thankyou, she works twice as good as she looks  ;D   Wife asked me to retire her today...  :-\ ;D  Shine is to the point now, 4-5yo, that she knows how to stop the bad ones... usually just a matter of time once a dog gets to that point from what I've seen...  BUT... that's what she does.  So that is what she will do.

I've got a full sister that's as good, if not better than her... a half sister, and 4 of Shine's pups to work with... but I do hope to get another litter out of her at some point... probably cross on a real rough Florida Cur next breeding...

If you talkin' about Whaler and Sawfish(son's of Shiner) yes, I still have them... other than that all of Shiner's siblings from different litters are all gone but for what I have... these dogs don't last long in careless hands...

schitemhard, if you take a looong look back into noahs post, he had another true hog dog that him and his hunting partner lee really enjoyed and caught a pile of hogs with. this dogs name was ellie r.i.p girl. she showed all his young and up coming dogs plenty of hogs and according to noah was a true all around dog, willing to please her master. now with ellie gone shinner has really stepped into that lead dog roll and done an excellent job, i have no doubt that as time goes on that her pups will do the same when shes not the lead dog. its just the way it goes. by reading on here you can see noah is serious on how he trys to go after hogs and what he expects from his dogs, he has that gift and he can find a way to bring the best out of every dog he hunts with. just for fun read all his old stories and you will see.

Good hogs Noah. I have one bandaged up like a mummy from a ear cut last weekend. Those ear cuts are a pain.

Now that was an enjoyable video buddy,...thanks for sharing it with us. That was a dang good hog y'all got on. I'm about to try the video thing myself,....just bought a Lidcam off ebay, but it doesn't work right, so I'm gonna have to send it back. My white dog Belle has tender ears it seems....they get nicked and on a white dog it looks like they got their throat cut. I did come up with a pretty good solution to it though. I keep a bottle of super glue in my coat and when they get an ear cut I hold pressure on it for a bit to slow down the bleeding and then gob a good bit of super glue onto the cut then quickly take some paper towel or toilet paper and mash it on top of the glue holding it for a second or two. This makes a good glob of glue and paper which usually stops the bleeding instantly....if not...repeat steps 1 and 2. Congrats on a goodun brother.
