I put my siganture on it a while back.  They only need 785 more to reach the 5000 mark.  PETA and HSUS did to the horse world what they are trying to do to the dog world now!!  They really know how to screw things up royally.  Its time to take our country back on all levels.

I just signed the petition.

Worst thing to ever happen to the horse industry in my opinion. Horse slaughter is better for horses and horse owners alike.

Man I dont know if it would work (too late now any way) but if a person could find a way to get it at every auction barn in the nation.  He could Get 100,000 signitures easily.

Off topic and off putting, but is it just for glue and dog food or what? I've often looked at horses and wondered if they end up on taco trucks?

Wow, I haven't been on here much lately but thanks for everyones responses. Ive been out of pocket for the last week or so.

Terry, I believe that its for dog food in the U.S. and they used to ship some overseas for human consumption. I don't have anything against eating a horse but I don't want to eat one that was crippled or sick. LOL But we definately have a need for horse slaughter in the U.S.

Heck,   I just gave away two mares.  One the daughter of Mandi's US and Canadian Champion, the other a 3/4 sister to a national champion. Both have produced well on their own....   Sad day when what was a 5 figure horse is now worth Zero.

I figure it might take it a little bit to get the facilities running and the market to reflect it as this just went through yesterday.

This is a victory for the horse world tho.

It is amazing what can be done when everyone stands together for a cause!!!

Do you all feel this is going to help the price of dog food?  We were buying feed the other night and everything was either bone meal or corn except the stuff that is 50 bucks a bag >:(

no it will not help the price of dog food . i used to sell dog food at the kennel and all the price increases do to fuel and corn caused the last rises in feed but when the fuel and corn cost was reduced the manufactuars refused to drop the feed prices accordingly . when the commodities drop it just increases the profit margin for the dog food at the mill . sorry but thats the way they do bizz.

Naturally.....How about quality, do you think it is going to increase it since there should be a greater supply of meat?  I literally went through bags and bags the other night just looking at ingredients...they were all the same thing with some of the more expensive stuff being worse than what we feed now.

probabley will . i noticed after the end of the horses alot of the feed started coming out with pork by products . they should go back to horse because in the begining i'm shure the market will be flooded and cheap at first .but i doubt we will see the decrease in price . because now they know we will still pay for it .

I signed that petition some time back and got an email from the White House and it pretty much blew a bunch of smoke. From the drift I got I wouldn't count on seeing horse slaughtering start up till this administration is gone if ever.

talked to a USDA inspector today, he said HSUS is now tryin to ban the domestic use of horse meat, and that since we havent exported any for so long that there isnt a market anymore for the US export of it.  said it would take years to re-establish a foreign market for it.  plus he said several of the US plants that used to kill em are now killing other stuff & may not want to kill horses again because the regulations will be so strict now.  but i kinda expect at least a little upturn in the horse market just based on this bill having passed.

Been keeping up with some of it through Sue Wallis, Wyoming State Representative, President & CEO of United Organizations of the Horse, and co-founder of the United Horsemen and the International Equine Business Association.

Here is a link to that girly site FB and the group she has organized.  It is a closed group and you have to ask for permission to join but there are a lot of articles regarding this and what they are looking at in the future.  Of course we have all of the bleeding hearts commenting about it but their comments are so far fetched and stupid in my opinion.  Prior to 2006, horses were slaughtered on a daily basis and it was not sold in US grocery stores, most horses that went to slaughter were the older, crippled, or too rank to use.  But it gave a place for these unwanted horses to go instead of being turned loose and /or starved to death.

Look up the Facebook group - PRO HORSE SLAUGHTER ADVOCATES

I do have a question, everyone who wants to be up in arms about this keeps saying its for human consumption, I say bull, most would go into animal feeds and human food additives. Am I correct? My dad worked at a butcher shop when I was young and I dont remember seeing any palomino steak on the shelfs.

The majority of all horse meat goes to europe, just like feral hogs. The demand is there and we have never stopped shipping it there. The only difference is that we are shipping it out of Mexico and Canada. The hold up to slaughtering them here is that the plants capable of this are in states where it is not legal.
