Title: Oklahoma Muzzleloader Buck
Post by: KevinO. on October 28, 2011, 05:03:04 pm
Shot this buck yesterday morning on my homestead.  ;D  I bought 70 acres about 8 years ago and finally built a house about 3 years ago.  It's always been covered up in deer.  They built an addition, probably 150 homes, on my North fence line which I tought would run the deer out but it didn't.  Heck the doe are almost tame. LOL!  I've been watching this deer for the last two years.  I've probably seen him 10 or 12 times.  Well I was leaving for work the other morning and saw him down in the bottom.  I grabbed my muzzleloader and headed out the door, in my dress slacks and a brightly colored shirt.  :o  No time for wardrobe changes....this might be my only chance.  I get down there and notice 9 doe and 2 smaller bucks that were running a doe around.  He saw me coming and froze on the far treeline, about 100 yards.  Now I got a good muzzleloader but I ain't got a scope on it.  The sights totally covered his body at 100 yards.  I let it fly and was blinded by the smoke.  All 11 of his comrads were still standing there like they had just seen a UFO.  I tucked my slacks into my boots, trudged across the marsh in a drizzleing rain and found no buck or blood.  Great!  Missed.  Walked back to the house and my wife said she heard me shoot and saw him charge across the field and dissapear into the treeline.

To make a long story short...I went to work for about 2 hours and came back to find him piled up 5 feet into the treeline.  ;D

Good representation of a Logan County, Oklahoma Whitetail.   :)

Thanks guys.

T.wilbanks, when I said I watched him for two years, don't think for a minute I wasn't trying to kill him every time I saw him during the season.  ;D  I saw him a lot in the off season as well.  Found his shed last year, or my dog did and brought it up to the porch.  I also saw him a few times in the summer.

Now I'll enjoy him on the wall.  :)

Great deer.  Most people wait a lifetime for a buck like that and you kill him in a pair of slacks and dress shirt.  Animals amaze me sometimes.
