Ok guys what do yall think about having a jam up dog cur, cat, hound, lacy whatever bread to a wolf what kind of dogs do u think they would make and when I say wolf I mean wolf not a coyote excuse my imagination  :laugh: lol

should have a hell of a nose and plenty of hunt might howl not bay lol

From the little bit of experience that I have had with wolf Hybrids, don't waist your time. They are not the brightest dogs

As kids, my mom raised Artic Wolves crossed with German Sheppards.  One of the line bred gyps was a mole hunting / catching heifer. 

They are very different personality wise, we used to run and play with ours but they were weird about strangers...I remember them having a predatory side to them but it was always something that we couldn't fault them for. 

I remember once coming home with my dad from hauling some calves my mom called in tears that they had caught some dobied calves I was raising....they were alos he!! on guineas  :D  and you know how impossible it is to catch a guinea!

I know since we had them they changed the laws on owning them and I think it can only be a small percentage.....back then the malamute's were 'popular' as crosses with them.

Yea I kno about people having wolf hybrids but I'm talkin bout the crossed with hog dogs I'm jus askin jus to be curious bc I have seen a lot of accidental breedings on here

I personally think they would be to skittish to use around 'strangers' because they can be so standoffish and you want to talk about a crap shoot....IMO, it is almost the same as breeding any line of hog dog to a coyote a whole lot of dedication and patience would be needed for this cross which I think is something we sometimes lack.

Now, if you had plenty of time to dilute it down a few generations you could most certainly increase your prey drive and size of the dog in general but aside from that what would you be looking to gain out of it?

I don't have any wolves on hand lol I was jus askin for some opinions bc I'm trying to start a breed of super dog I'm 21 I think I could have some ready for the woods when I'm about 77 yrs young

 :D well then, I recommend gettting started now cause you are going to need the next 56 years to breed the standoffish out of them but in the end you just might have something!

It would be interesting to see if you could hone them in and refine them enough to use them because I can tell you they never loose their drive to hunt, that is why there were so many of the hybrids being dumped because people couldn't get past the fact that their hybrid stretched their cat or fufu dog  because it resembled some prey animal. 

I don't think you would have much bay to them either, I  know the ones we had didn't have any worries about a good kicking or stomping from a horse.

I know an old man that used to have some.  They were wolf, pit, catahoula if I remember correctly.  Looked like german sheppards for the most part, one was brendly.  Not much hunt to them.  I guess what you would call running catch dogs.  Personally I wouldnt own one, mean nasty things.

A guy I used to work with an hunt with had a 98% timber wolf she didn't have much of a go out an really hunt mind set but would go to a bay an if she seen a hog there was no way it could out run her. She winded one once an ram it down in an open field by herself but didn't have the grit to just grab it an hold it but she kept it turnin enough that we could grab it.

ha ha  won't work at all . my old vet raised precentage wolf's in her kennel . being bottle fed since before their eyes was open . if one got out of the kennel she would have to find and catch it that day . if left out over night she would have to dart them . they will revert back to the wild in just a matter of days .of course she started with the real deal . her stud dog was roughly 99% and weighed in aroung 200lbs. and they all just had that LOOK in their eyes . hell i could never trust one of them suckers when her male would look at me gave me the shivers .

I am just simple minded. I figure if over centuries of trying the wolf has never been a domestic animal there is a reason. There was a woman that raise wolf crosses. They found her dead in the pen. I am not hunting with something I don't completely trust. Maybe someone can pull it off but I doubt it.

I'll just stick to my yella dogs, no probs out of them raise the voice a lil bit and they kennel up! ;D

I've lived with wolves most of my life in mn and Mi. those have had to deal with them hate them. I think you will have troubles with dog fights and probably will have some people bit. Find two good dogs and breed them. no need to reinvent the wheel!

i ask a friend this same exact question the other day.he replied.it would probably go crazy and bite you.and the thought went a away.

I had a friend that hunts alot an his dad had 2 artic wolfs they were always slinking around never very friendly they would kill small game around the ranch an piglets, they were cowards on a big pig they ended up killing a couple of his up an comming pups while the pups were on the chain, then that was the end of them. He also had a few pups out of the wolf gyp by a good old hog dog he had an they weren't any good either.
