Title: NO PAPERS Post by: noljohn on December 15, 2011, 08:05:13 pm I bought a BMC about a year ago now from a guy in Tampa, Fl. I drove 2 hours down there to pick the dog up and was informed that he didn't have the papers on the pup yet. I really liked the the puppy and the guy was very convincing that he would send me the papers. I believed him and to make a long story short after contacting him numerous times still no papers. I am happy with the dog but will not breed him now. Anybody planning on buying a BMC from someone in the Tampa Fl area let me know and I will let you know his name.

Title: Re: NO PAPERS Post by: t.wilbanks on December 15, 2011, 08:09:35 pm Papers get wet when you take em hunting, and the dog cant read em!!
Why would not having papers keep you from breeding the dog if it was worth breeding? Title: Re: NO PAPERS Post by: t.wilbanks on December 15, 2011, 08:10:17 pm Bar R Ranch, you beat me to it!!! Papers dont make the dog hunt any better!!!

Did you buy the pup specifically to breed and sell reg pups? Or is your main use going to be a working dog hog/cow? Regardless the feller should have followed through on his word. But would like to know your original intention of purchasing the pup. Title: Re: NO PAPERS Post by: charles on December 15, 2011, 10:36:29 pm Them dogs cant read no papers! ;D x2 lack of papers dont make the dog sterile, just means you can not break even on the price of the dog by selling only a couple pups. i ran into the same thing from a guy just north ok city. after months, 7 to be exact after purchase, and after giving them to a friend in ok. i got the papers. the guy said the parents were reg, but when i got the pups papers, the reg number for the pups and parents were sequintial. he reg the parents and the entire litter at the same time. Title: Re: NO PAPERS Post by: jon on December 16, 2011, 07:03:53 am im glad im not the only one that doesnt care about the paper bs everyone around where im at is always talking bout what kinda papers they got on there dogs and all but ive always wondered who the heck cares
Title: Re: NO PAPERS Post by: wranglercurs on December 16, 2011, 07:48:17 am Them papers dont mean but one thang and thats to prove it a black mouth cur even thou it has a bob tail or pink nose or glass eyes.
Hunt the son of a gun forget about the papers and trying to get rich off puppies. If he turns out do a little back yard breeding with him and GIVE the pup's to your buddys an ya'll hunt them. JMO on the matter. Well, 2 hours isnt too far of a drive to either go get the papers or to give an a$$ whoopin... ;) If your breeding dogs for papers and to make money, please start raising poodles instead of hunting dogs... The hunting world has enough papered trash going around as it is.. Title: Re: NO PAPERS Post by: southtexasff on December 16, 2011, 03:00:04 pm The point is he was promised something when he made the deal, the other guy didnt uphold his end of the deal. Its the same as if someone sell you a dog says he will bay a hog and the dog dont do crap for you.
Title: Re: NO PAPERS Post by: Amokabs on December 16, 2011, 03:20:55 pm If he didnt have the papers ready when you came to get the pup, u should've paid half, other half on receipt of the papers
Title: Re: NO PAPERS Post by: djhogdogger on December 16, 2011, 03:35:47 pm I don't blame you at all for being mad as heck about the papers. As far as it holding you back from breeding the dog, I don't think that most people care about papers when it comes to hunting dogs. The proof is in the pudding and the papers are only proof of the lineage.
Title: Re: NO PAPERS Post by: Hog Dog Mike on December 16, 2011, 08:35:07 pm Here is my question for you. Let's say he did give you the papers how do you know they are correct? All you have is word that is how the dogs are bred. For that matter the sire or dam or both might have had some phantom breeding. The only positive way is to have them DNA tested and I betcha that did not happen.
Lots of folks got in trouble with this some time back in the bird dog breeding business. They came up with the DNA testing and come to find out some of the hot shot famous breeders were selling dogs that were not bred as advertised. I used to run alot of bird dogs and the absolute best bred (on papers) dog I ever owned was the sorriest dog I ever owned. With proper breeding that dog could have set bird dogs back 50 years. I gave him away and regret not shooting him for the good of the breed. If you got a good dog be well pleased and I would not hesitate to breed him. Also just because one dog is good does not mean that they are a prepotent sire. Title: Re: NO PAPERS Post by: uglydog on December 17, 2011, 06:23:11 am WEll I am Sorry that you went through t he ordeal and you probably paid more for a dog with papers not because its better dog but because the dog had a good lineage that you were counting on.
I pay more for PAPERS. NOT BECAUSE I AM BREEDING PAPERS, go look in classifieds and before yall start making comments, but because I want do alot of research and put alot of faith the WORKING Dogs in thats dogs pedigree to shine through because I have already REsearched and know that those dogs produce and will be an assett to my pack of DOGS for along time to come. SO IF I DO BUY a DOG, YOU know I either really liked it on its performance, its families performance or it sure done something to make me like it. I hate you got taken by a smooth talker and it happens to alot of folks more often then they want to admit. Title: Re: NO PAPERS Post by: rspivey on December 17, 2011, 06:59:14 am I tend to agree with what most folks have said about the "paper" thing. I tried for about six months to teach mine to read but they never did take to it. If I had been the man that you bought the dog from and did not have the puppy papers ,I would have at least sat down and written you out a four or five generation pedigree so you would have something to look at while you waited on your papers to arrive in the mail. I put more stock in a breeder who can sit down and hand write a pedigree, than one who has to wait for a registry to put it together for them.

JMO Title: Re: NO PAPERS Post by: noljohn on December 17, 2011, 06:43:14 pm Didn't realize this was going to cause such a stir. To start out with I didn't get what I paid for. If I was really worried about papers I wouldn't have accepted the pup when I went to pick him up. Really wasn't planning on breeding him either but i would like to know what his breeding was. I use him for blood trailing. I've had bird dogs, labs, and coon hunted for about 15 years pretty heavy, this is the best dog I've ever had. If the jeep leaves the yard he is in the front seat. By the way he saved me a deer this year trailed him about 1/4 mile. I agree with you guys if the dog is any good I wouldn't be worried about papers. I was just trying to give someone a heads up if they were buying from that area.
Title: Re: NO PAPERS Post by: TexasHogDogs on December 17, 2011, 07:22:10 pm I dont blame you for being pissed off if the man sold you the dog with papers he should deliver . Glad you dont breed dogs just because of the pretty papers.

JMO And a dog with both (good dog with papers) can be a cornerstone to keep you in good dogs for a good long while. "Papers" aren't as important as the pedigree... Title: Re: NO PAPERS Post by: Bryant on December 17, 2011, 07:50:01 pm I have papers on every dog in my kennels....they're just not on any fancy letterhead.
If your breeding dogs with a purpose other than trying to score some cash, then lineage can be VERY important. Title: Re: NO PAPERS Post by: TexasHogDogs on December 17, 2011, 09:05:16 pm I agree Bryant the lineage is very important. I call it a road map of your dogs and it is a road map to how you want to breed your dogs and in which direction you want to go and end up . Another reason I call it a road map is because it can lead you to great things if read right and if not read right it can lead you to the chit can the same way as a road map read it right it takes you right were you want to go, read it wrong and you end up in Bum Humped Egypt scratching your head .
