Title: R.I.P. Soco
Post by: TColt on December 21, 2011, 07:14:06 pm
I want to start by saying thank yall to the ETHD family for all the prayers and thoughts, I really appreciate it and I have really needed it.

As most of you know, Soco didn’t make it. He somehow made it back to the house and Lindsay spotted him at the fence on Sunday afternoon. He was tore up bad and we rushed him to the vet. He had a rib that was broke in half, punctured lung, was cut up worse than any living dog I have ever seen in the front on his shoulders and neck. We got him on oxygen and fluids and the doctor went to work. Soco took over 100 stitches and still had plenty of room for the wounds to drain, just to give yall an idea of how bad it was. After getting him fixed up, his body just couldn’t hold on. He had been in shock for a long time (Goin on 24 hours) and his kidneys gave out.

Soco, was more than a hunting dog to me. I raised him from a pup and pushed him to the limit and he continued to amaze me. He was my housedog and my little buddy that went everywhere with me. I swear that dog could read my mind. He has been with me through a lot and got me through a lot of tough times including the passing of my mom (his original vet), along with many other things. No mater what I did or how I acted, that dog loved me and was always there to cheer me up when I was down. This has been pretty hard for me and there isn’t much I wouldn’t do to have ol Soco back. It has been a huge loss to my pack and to me personally. One of the hardest things about it is that you don’t expect them to end up dead when you put them in the pen for the night, and it kills me that I couldn’t do more for him. Im glad he mad it back to me and we were able to spend his last few hours together. He caught many good boars in his life and lived over four good years of solid hunting. Im glad he went out doing what he loved, although I wish I could have been there to help. He is truly missed and will never be able to be replaced.

R.I.P. Soco

Bad deal for sure. Never had the opportunity to hunt behind soco, but can appreciate what he meant to you. Its hard to lose any dog, but losing a special dog is like losing a close family member.

RIP Soco

Ive heard alot about this dog, and I have a great respect for the dog even though Ive never seen him hunt. It sounds like he had the desire to hunt just like any great hog dog. Loosing a friend is never easy but I hope you can move on soon. Sorry for your loss.

Man I'm sorry to hear about all this Taylor. Losing a good dog while hunting is one thing, but losing a good dog the way he went out is another. One of the worst feelings I've ever had is pulling up to feed my dogs and my 5 year old strike dog being dead on the chain. It sucks. Keep your head up.

sorry for your loss man Idk know you or your dog but he sounded like one of those special ones. It gives me chills knowin that what killed him was the thing he loved doin so much that he got out of his kennel just to do it. Wish i had a dog with that kind of want and desire. I envy the way you and soco's partnership was. So here's one for a great dog and even better friend. Rip soco

I sure hate to hear that its hard to loose a dog you love.  Time will heal some but when you loose one like that the hole in your heart will always be there.   Good luck man sorry to hear this.

RIP SOCO, sorry for your loss, Fortunately I havent lost a dog of mine personally, but I do understand it is pretty much inevitable in our sport of one day losing one, I dont know what i would do if it is my Catahoula, Achilles, he is to me what SOCO is to you Taylor.  I hope your mind and heart heal up soon and you are back to doing what you love.
