Yeah i dont think they will allow dogs in there.  some other people on here will know more... but to even think that bow hunters will make a difference is just ignorant.  thats our urbanized world for ya.

Paul i've got the Harris County contract for hog removal. We actually got to hunt out there a few times last summer. Then the county agent in charge of the park felt runing the dpgs would be a "public safety" issue because of all the bikers and joggers in the park.

... things are still in the works. ;)

I thought you might shed some light on that, figured you were involved some how. Good luck getting in.

I used to work at the gun range that is in the middle of George Bush Park when I was in high school. While working there a guy that worked for Texas Parks and Wildlife had several traps set in the park and about 3 or 4 on the gun range's property.  Over the couple of years I worked out there I became pretty familiar with the fella and would go check the traps with him from time to time.   Seen him pull ALOT of hogs off of that place.  This was back in the late 90's, the area has been developed a bit since then but I know there are still several out there.

Wow, that's cool.  Headline should read, "Politically Connected Bowhunter Gets Permeission for Self and Cronies to Hunt Barker Resrvoir."

      i was thinking that also. who is doing who a favor... a bow hunter will do good to get 1 apiece a day so thats 8 an i know of somefolks have done 9 in 4 hours, 5 catahoulas and 2 fatboys one knife :-\

I read that too....... 15,000 hogs on 7,800 acres.  Yeah right.  And they said they cant find a way to donate the meat, But its being done by other organizations.  They just haven't hooked up with the right people yet if you ask me.  That was a very poorly written article.  It made it sound like it cost 60$ to process a hog.

At a time when ANY type of  hunting is becoming unacceptable, I am glad to see someone get at least a small  chance to bring good light on hunting for the public to see. The last time I saw news on hunting hogs in Texas, they were going to allow helicopters to be used. I dont own a helicopter , but I do on a bow. Steve Raddack seems to be a supporter of the hunting community. Hunters stand together or fall alone. Quint

Quint, Steve Raddack is what he is, A POLITICIAN!  Never forget that.  Someone greased his wheel so now he is giving a little grease back.  Anytime you have a problem like the one have and you think that you can solve it with four bow carrying hunters you are just wrong.  Either you have a problem and you want a real solution or you don't have a problem and you bring in some bow hunting buddies with permission.  It would have been better to leave it out of the paper and just let the guys go do their thing.  The same "official" that claims there to be 10+K hogs there is the same guy that told us last year that when it rains and the creeks swell the hogs drown and it keeps their numbers in check, no need for hunting them.  And went on to talk about how there aren't that many hogs in the park.  Now a year later they have a huge problem and grand solution to fix it, I just don't buy it.  I am happy for the guys that get to go bow hunting there but I have been there, hunted there and cought hogs there and I am telling you now the hogs are not going to keep getting shot during the day time, they will become nocturnal and they will say they fixed the problem and landowners will still get their flower beds torn up.  My frustration is simply with the way things have become, where city, state and municipal powers have become blind to real solutions and dont want to commit to anything for fear they will get their toe hung in a crack.

    You and I are in 100% agreement here.  I think if you are going to get the population out there in check, you need to trap, shoot, and dog the hogs. Not to mention you need some amphibious vehicles to navigate the slews and knee deep mud.

 I was quite pleased to hear that Steve Raddack is going to allow bow hunters to help him with the hog problem in George Bush Park.
To have a politician look to a hunter of any type for help is awesome to say the least! Lets give them some support!

I also know beyond a shadow of doubt that the bow hunters will have no impact on the hog population regardless of their success.
As most of you already know wild hogs are primarily nocturnal even when not pressured by hunting or human activity. Studies also have proved that just to maintain a wild hog population 7 out of every 10 hogs need to be harvested/removed annually.
Only hard working hog hunters with dogs can deliver the numbers it will take to get that problem under control!

Just keep a bug in commissioner Raddack's ear and when he finally sees that the bow hunting is not getting it done...Ride in on your gallant hog hunting stead (mule, horse, 4 wheeler, canoe, etc) and take care of business.

This way the bow hunters get a piece of the pie and maybe we wont have to worry about a group of bow hunters complaining about "politically connected hog hunters" on bow hunting forums and causing hard feelings.

Its more important than ever that we sportsmen of all types stick together.

Mike, let us know when they call begging you and your dogs to come and take a walk in George Bush Park!lol I dont expect you'll have to wait that long.

that bow hunting will last til a shot hog or shoat runs out and does 2-3 dounuts squealing its head off flops and ends in a dying quiver
