EAST TEXAS HOG DOGGERS FORUM

I've got a cur and a pit that share a 10 x 10 kennel. Kennel is all metal but I have two 2x4's running through to cradle a plastic barrel 24 in.
off the slab. I have a plywood platform in front of the drum for them to lay on. They recently started chewing and eating the wood like crazy. I can't catch them in the act. I don't know which dog it is . It maybe both. I have to do something . They chit a pile of splinters every bowel movement. I have sprayed lemon oil and hot sauce to no avail. Do any of y'all know of something I can spray or paint on the wood to stop them from chewing  or how to get them to stop? If I could catch them in the act I would put shocking collar on them.
It's not from lack of exercise because they get roaded behind four wheeler everyday. Any help or thoughts appreciated.

I got a little bottle of no chew spray and sprayed everything down real good. It stopped mine from chewing plastic and wood.

Put some hot sauce on it! They wont touch it!  >:D

Take some cayenne pepper and apply it to the areas the like to chew as often as needed.

I've got a dog that loves hot sauce..... He gets so excited and just gets to licken his lips haha!

pee on the area, did that with a dog and chain link and he never chewed the spot again :P

I cut a live oak tree branch about 2 inches in diameter and let then chew on that...cheaper than nylabones...it seems to help but doesn't make them stop...but when you find the answer let us know...

yeah hot sauce thats funny.  my louisiana catahoulas love louisiana hot sauce as much as i do . it;s in all my table scraps they wont hardly eat em without it   ;D

lmao! I had to put it on my dog's cast. He couldn't feel his foot so he started chewing on it. So we soaked the cast in Louisiana hot sauce and he didn't want anything to do with it. Is this dog by chance a hog dog? Bet he is gritty! Lol!

halfbreed, i always heard a dog that drinks beer, barks at a pretty lady and watches nascar beside you is a dog! but a hot sauce loving dog is better than all that! got any around for sale? :D

on a more seriouse note  i try to allways keep the big cow leg bones in the pens with the dogs helps their teeth and gums stay strong not to mention working the jaw muscles . i don't buy them just go lookin in the old cow bone yard that every rancher has and pick up the old bleached out big leg bones they love them and it keeps em busy on the bone and not the kennel . i especially keep one for the bulldogs the more they work that bone the better  there teeth stay set hard and strong

x2...I just don't do it when I have more than one dog in a kennel.

I have the same problem and have thought about wrapping the wood with sheet metal.  Bending it to fit...

I found 32 oz. spray bottle of Purina Chew Deterrent at Wally World for $4.00. I'll give it a shot and see if it works.

Mine were eating the house and I put Tabasco on it. I think they liked it more. I drilled some holes in angle iron and covered the corners. They only chew it a little now rolleyes But use lots of long screws so they don't just rip it off. I am going to try no chew stuff and see if it helps stop them from eating the dog houses.

if they get plenty of exersice as you say , their could be something lacking in their diet  .

mine were chewing the wood trim around my back door and windows. I just bought a small bundle of fire wood at the gas station and they have been chewing on that instead. I also give mine the pigs feet to let them chew on something after each hunt

I've heard that you can use pickleing vinegar to make a dog not chew idk if it works but worth a try
