Ok I got a weird thing going on. It aint a big deal just makes me wonder. A couple of my Black Mouths get scabs on the ends of their ears. When they shake their heads the fling blood all over. Its not like it is a lot of blood just enough to notice. Kinda weird so I was just wondering if yall have seen this or know why it happens???

THE TIPS OF THE EARS GET CUT AND SCRATCHED WHILE HUNTIN, EVERY DOG IVE GOT HAS THE SAME THING GOIN ON.

I second that

reason I don't think it is from hunting in the briars is because they are shaking their heads...so more than likely it is ear mites...

IT MIGHT BE A COMBO OF BOTH. THE HEAD SHAKIN SAYS EARMITES, MINE DONT USUALLY SHAKE THEIR HEADS BUT THE TIPS OF THEIR EARS ARE A BLOODY MESS.

I got 3 like that.

Probably shakin there head cause insects  (flies) aggravating the scratches ! My dogs have the same deal  every now and then.

My female lacy dog does this. She has ear mites and scratched the heck out of them to where the tips bleed and when she shakes her head blood goes everywhere like a stuck pig.

Is there brown crud in their ears?

Also what remedies do some of y'all know? I put some warm water on their ears using drops and also have some solution I squirt with a bottle in her ears. Seems to work and she has calmed down plenty.

The brown crud in the ears is a tell tell sign for mites...

They are highly contagious as well if you've got them around other dogs.

My dogs do the same thing but they don't have ear mites, I think that the scab probably itches so they shake there head to scratch them, then it re-opens the scab and then it gets bloody again.

if you have some mineral oil put some in the ears, enough to coat the inside, message the bare of the ear..it will make a squishing noise.. then stand back cuz there gonna shake! do it everyother day for a week...if you can get a hold of lanolin that works better but you have to flush the ear with an iodine solution untill its clean then pack the ear with the lanolin paste(make sure to message the ear). Let it sit for a week then flush the remainder of the past out of the ear with the iodine solution..make sure to use warm water cuz lanolin is a pain to get off with cold water. But the mineral oil works just as good...my Lacys have scabey tips due to flys not mites

Super glue the ends to stop the bleeding. Gob some super glue on the end of the ear.....have someone hold the dogs head while you do this.....you DO NOT want to get it in the eyes for dang sure. Take a paper towel or some toilet paper and mash it on the glue soon as you put in on the ear, hold it for a second or two and peel the excess off.....you may have to do it a time or two but it works like a charm. Some of the paper will remain and for a nice little block for the blood.

Break fluid works well for ear mites.

couple of cc's rubbed into each ear canal every 3 days for about a week.

Got a yella dog with the same problems.. Not ear mites just Knicks of skin of missing where's he's scratched it off... Bleeds a little not much! My problem was flea bites and he scratched it until he caused soars on his ears.. Washed him in dawn dish liquid and put a little ultra guard and he's been ok since

meant to say couple of cc's of ivomec.

a slower process is give a 50 pound dog 1.5 cc's a week for 3 weeks. give orally and the mites will eventually die due to the ivomec increasing in the dogs blood...the mites die because they are blood suckers.

I do both the ear and the oral treatment just to make sure.

If its ear mites first clean the ears with an ear cleaner or alcohol then get some nu stock pack in ears and all over the underside of the ear wait three days repeat done deal usually works with the first treatment but i repeat to make sure
