Title: Breeding Question
Post by: LTHogDogger on January 30, 2012, 07:36:56 pm
I have a little over 2 yr old pure breed Bluetick.. She ranges 800-1000 yrds and gets the job done. She is a finished strike dog and is open on hot track. She is also a gritty dog and will catch with the catch dog. I am just wondering what yall think i should breed her to? Im thinking a catahoula, but would like yalls opinions also.. Thanks!

if you want to maintain the color pattern I would go with catahoula cur or leopard cur.

and if you want lots of hunt and nose I would use leopard cur...but would have a higher percent of open dogs...

catahoula would be my preference...but the best catahoula I could find...JMO

What do you want out of the breeding?
I am wanting a medium range or longe range dog that is most likely gonna be silent and be a little rough to stop runners.

Breed  her to the best full cur dog you know of reguardless of the breed if that does not matter to you. I would be looking for the best dog and best bred cur I could find.  It will shut down some of the mouth , most likly cut down the range , and a cur hound cross should be just about right as far as the ruffness goes.

DONT breed her to a sorry ol Catahoula!! You may completely ruin your gyp just by letting one mount her!!!   >:D  :D

Just Kidding... I agree with THD, breed her to the best you can find..   ;)
