Title: What do you think is really in yella dogs breed wise? Post by: BIG BEN on February 15, 2012, 05:05:30 pm After reading the hound threads on here it got me thinking. What breeds do you think make up the yella black mouth cur? Im talking about yella dogs, not mountain curs or kemmers. I believe if folks really knew there would be a whole lot less bashing of the other breeds, why because those breeds are most likely in you yella dogs somewhere down the line.

OK on February 15, 2012, 05:13:37 pm Probably Hound-some yeller colored stock/farm dogs that were above average and what ever they saw the traits of and wanted. maybe some type of mastiff like dog way back? Probably been more bred in to the breed in the last 30 years than in the first 30 if there like most dogs.

OK on February 15, 2012, 08:01:39 pm YBM, you know I still root for the yella dogs, But I was just a hound man looooooong before i ever owned a cur dog and old habits die hard.
I doubt though that this late in the ball game any one could 100% say what's all in those dogs. I imagine the focus was more on quality of work and drive back then and no to much on looks. Probably there were some dogs that came out yellow with the look and they just worked better so that is what was bred over and over, line bred I'm sure and the color just became dominant to the point that they were called yellow black mouth curs? Post by: Reuben on February 15, 2012, 08:55:32 pm most of the good ones probably have a touch of one of these breeds...mtn cur, walker, plott, redbone and maybe some bulldog...but all dog breeds started out as mixed breeds or crossbreeds.
