Title: feeding canines i.e. hard keepers Post by: halfbreed on February 16, 2012, 01:47:34 pm after reading the results of feed your dogs and people talking about how they can feed a dog and can't get weight gain thought i would post some findings on dog health from some of my many reaserches on enzymes and probiotics wich i have mentioned before to no avail
EPI - or Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency , is the inability to properly digest food , and absorb nutrients , due to lack of digestive enzymes made by the pancreas . EPI , can present itself in many stages of severity , from a minor mal-absorbtion to literally no absorbtion of food and eventual death from starvation . EPI is most commonly treated with a supplementation of pancreatic enzymes . SIBO -or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth , occurs in 70 % of animals with EPI . undigested food sits in the digestive tract and is attacked by an overgrowth of bad bacteria . animals with EPI and SIBO are 50% more likely to suffer from B-12 deficiency , making it more difficult to gain weight and can lead to neurological problems . vitamin B-12 and probiotic supplementation is crucial to long term survival rates in epi/sibo animals . HOPE THIS MIGHT HELP SOME OUT WITH THE DOGS KNOWN AS HARD KEEPERS Title: Re: feeding canines i.e. hard keepers Post by: Reuben on February 16, 2012, 01:50:14 pm didn't know that...but good to know...good info...

Title: Re: feeding canines i.e. hard keepers Post by: halfbreed on February 16, 2012, 08:16:15 pm proboitics can be obtained at most feed stores and tsc handles them . they come in powder form or a paste . i usually get the powdered kind i use it when i start my pups on solid food to help with digestion . also a good cultered yogurt is a great supply of good bactieria . and after worming the dogs for internal parisites on the grown dogs i'll give em a dose of the powdered probiotics on their feed .
