Title: Boarhound or Dane Post by: TexasLacy on March 03, 2012, 06:38:07 pm I was goofing around on the internet last night, and it eventually led me checking out the bio on Josh White with L3 outdoors. This, in turn, had me checking out their dog's bio. In particular Riddick. I had always thought that Riddick was a great dane. L3's website claim him to be a boarhound. Reading further, they claim that the two are interchangeable. A boarhound is basically just a proven great dane. Which, conveniently, are registered by L3 outdoors. A search of the internet says that the danes were originally bred down from the boarhounds from Europe. But the description of an original boarhound only slightly resembles the "boarhound" riddick or great danes in general. I may be biased, because whenever I did watch the discovery channel show that he was on, I felt shame and embarrassment that L3 was viewed nationally as a representation of Texas hog doggers. I just think its odd that they would try and recreate/rename a breed of dog, and I don't understand what a reason for doing that would be.
So, is Riddick a "boarhound"(which I understand to have been bred out of existence years ago due to breed conformations of the great dane) or just a great dane, and they are trying to make him sound "cooler?" And it seems to me, the only way you can have a "boarhound" is through L3. Convenient? So, I can start calling my bmc's "boarbusters" and create my own breed. BTW, if any of yall want to register your boarbusters, it has to be approved by me. Send me a picture of your dog and your money and I'll send back your boarbuster registration papers haha Title: Re: Boarhound or Dane Post by: texasgrit on March 03, 2012, 07:45:38 pm will any old kurr dog do rolleyes are dose it have to be a BMC.and if i regiter my dog dose that mean i could get my own show ;D
Title: Re: Boarhound or Dane Post by: Purebreedcolt on March 03, 2012, 07:53:29 pm You know the more I think on it the more all our dogs aught to be called boarhounds and here is why. In amongst us there are several different groups etc but you group all our dogs as boar hounds we are a bigger force to keep our sport alive. Lol sounds good anyways.

You sure can get your own show, just please don't let your ol lady tell the cameraman every 5 seconds about the demon spawn hogs that exist only to poision you, eat your children and destroy your pets. ;D Title: Re: Boarhound or Dane Post by: Miller Lite on March 04, 2012, 01:13:52 pm I refer to mine as wildboar hounds when i've been drinkin lol
Title: Re: Boarhound or Dane Post by: buddylee on March 04, 2012, 01:34:26 pm What's wrong with trying to improve a breed ?
Title: Re: Boarhound or Dane Post by: TexasLacy on March 04, 2012, 01:43:37 pm Whats wrong with having a great dane that happens to be a jam up hogdog without renaming it?
btw, from what I've seen of Riddick, I would've gotten rid of him a long time ago. I personally wouldn't like having to put him on top of pigs and still have him not produce. Title: Re: Boarhound or Dane Post by: RyanTBH on March 05, 2012, 04:42:53 pm That name sounds familiar... ;D Texas Boar Hounds... That has a ring to it... LOL! ;D

I have had several dealings with Josh and he's been honest and trustworthy. Does it make me feel better to talk bad about others? A. No, I don't feel better about anything. B. I wasn't talking bad about Josh or Krystal. Do I think that the show is bogus? Yes. Do I like how Texas hog doggers are represented by those two? No, like I said before, it's pretty embarrassing to watch the show being from Texas myself. Do I think their dogs work hard enough, and productive enough to be featured as representatives of Texas hog dogs? Absolutely not.Totally unrelated to the topic, I don't know Josh or Krystal, never had any dealings with them myself. For the most part, what I have seen of them and L3 outdoors in general, they do seem to be trustworthy dependable denizens of their community. I wasn't attacking their morals or integrity. UNLESS, you are talking of how shady I think the great dane/boarhound business is. And I asked a genuine question, and I welcome all responses. Even yours, regardless of its irrelevance to my question. Title: Re: Boarhound or Dane Post by: Kid7 on March 06, 2012, 09:50:52 pm Mine are majestic hounds! ;D so I can go chase the allusive wild boar through the forest with my majestic hounds! Hahaha

UNLESS, you are talking of how shady I think the great dane/boarhound business is. And I asked a genuine question, and I welcome all responses. Even yours, regardless of its irrelevance to my question. You have seen how the show represents him. Unfortunately for all of us hog doggers, most the tv shows want to make a joke out of us. How many hogs do you think they have to catch before they actually have enough footage? I have done a few guided hunts with large groups of people, none of which were a loud camera crew with a bunch of equipment, and I think you would be surprised at the difference it makes. I can only imagine what it would be like having a camera man stop me and have me go into a catch three times so that they can get the right shot. Reality TV may not be as real as you think. I do not think that Josh means any harm with the TV show stuff. I actually think that he represented hog doggers in a very professional manner, weather that is how other hunters do it or not. I mean I don't go out in a starched shirt, although my jeans always are lol, and have logos and what not on my truck, but he did present himself professionally. Weather they SHOWED him catching a lot of pigs or not, the general public could care less. And believe it or not, discovery did not make the show for hog doggers, they made it for the general public. All that is beating a dead horse, if you wanna stay busy with that, go back and read the hogs gone wild threads, should keep you busy for a while. From my understanding, the boar hound thing is trying to take the great dane and breed it back to its original standard by breeding down the size and breeding in the hunt. When you start a registration, you have to start somewhere. This is how most registrations start here in the US (one individual and a dog), until AKC, UKC, ect, takes control of them. Usually, when they take over, is when the breeds start to go to number 2 lol. This is going to take quite some time to get the "boar hound" to become more than one dog and get back to its standard, mainly because few people use them. But great danes and their crosses sure have become more popular since the show, so hopefully it works out for Josh. Just because someone does something different does not mean they are wrong, I do things a lot different than the majority of hunters sometimes. Heck, I even go "one out" every now and then ;D Title: Re: Boarhound or Dane Post by: chads7376 on March 07, 2012, 07:06:19 pm Who really cares what he does ?
