Title: aggressive female dogo Post by: dodgegirl on March 04, 2012, 01:10:52 pm Hey everyone. I got a new female dogo a few months back she is gorgeous, shes a great dog with my family and I but she hates people and other dogs. The first month we had her she was good with my other dogs. But she's changed real quick. We've owned dogos for a good amount of years and have had our fair share of aggressive ones but nothing comes close to how aggressive she is. She gets along with one of my male dogs and that's it. I let her out of the pen the other day to run around and she went straight to another pen and grabbed on of my males through the pen. And tore a nice chunk out of him. At first I thought she was just very dominate, but its seems to me that she just want s to kill everything around her. Any ideas on why she's like this? Or if there's anything I can do to break her of this? She's a little under 2 years old.

You would think so, buy we'be tried everything I can think of and nothing works. If another dog goes close to her pen she hits the door full force growling and going crazy Title: Re: aggressive female dogo Post by: hoghunter7 on March 04, 2012, 01:30:19 pm IMO the only way to break an aggressive dog is Lead treatment
Title: Re: aggressive female dogo Post by: hoghunter71409 on March 04, 2012, 01:37:18 pm When a dog doesnt perfrom as well as I would like or as well as I think they should, I am the last to cull. I give dogs a lot of tries and I do a lot of training....some therapy with a shock collar. However, I am the first to cull at agression. I do not tolerate, I dont allow it, and I flat out dont like it. I would cull a dog like that right now before you lose a dog of a child get attacked. Just remember, dogs are animals and they will act like such.

Only one safe answer take out of your yard and gene pool .22!
Title: Re: aggressive female dogo Post by: dodgegirl on March 04, 2012, 02:09:45 pm She's people aggressive & dog aggressive. I've been trying to find a home for her no kids no pets but of course no one wants a problem dog that has so much power. Which I completely understand. I don't have the heart to take her to the pound because I know she will be put down. My yard is completely dog proof there's no way she can get out and I'm always out with her while she's in the yard so I'm not worried about her attacking a child. I'm just looking for ways that I could try to break her aggression.

Title: Re: aggressive female dogo Post by: tnhillbilly on March 04, 2012, 08:00:47 pm If you don't have the heart to do it, then find someone who does. A dog with that kind of aggression, is a disaster waiting to happen. Not a matter of if, but when.
Title: Re: aggressive female dogo Post by: Hogsnatchers on March 04, 2012, 08:37:11 pm I don't cull very much either but your asking for trouble if you don't with this one. Here's the scenario your putting yourself into. You know this dog is aggressive to the point of being very dangerous. You said it yourself no one wants a problem dog with that much power and there is a good reason for that if this dog is allowed to continue on a person will get hurt or possibly worse. Do you really want to say you didn't had the heart to keep another person from being attacked. That is going to.be on your head when it happens because if it is not stopped someone else's life may be changed for the worse because of your neglect.
Title: Re: aggressive female dogo Post by: Noah on March 04, 2012, 08:38:12 pm If I had the time, I'd give her a whirl... I don't mind workin' with that type of animal... actually quite enjoy it...
...try to bond with the dog, give her an outlet for the aggression(hogs).... socialize, excercize, educate... muzzle the dog if complications occur... drench the dog in situations... when she looks for an escape, be there for her.... lot of work... but it could work... then again... could not and be a complete waste of time and energy... lot of good dogs out there to waste effort on a cull, if it's a cull... Shoot her and bury her asap, life is to short to rish a loose cannon like that in the kennel or getting loose in the hood and killing some kid or somebody trying to break up a fight she seems to start unproked. A dog with that kind of aggression, is a disaster waiting to happen. Not a matter of if, but when. x2...and if ths dog gets get rehabilitated thru extreme measures then you can expect for some of the offspring to be acting in the same manner...and if the new master does not have the experience to deal with this type of behavior after the pup is grown...then could be a disaster waiting to happen...but a good breeder would cull a dog like this from the gene pool... Title: Re: aggressive female dogo Post by: dodgegirl on March 04, 2012, 10:09:00 pm I'm not going to breed her. I never was planning on it. I'm going to try to have someone work with her and if that doesn't work I will have to do what I need to do.

It suck sometimes, but I applaud your sense of responsibility. Title: Re: aggressive female dogo Post by: dodgegirl on March 05, 2012, 12:40:30 am Yes, I had her spayed a few days after getting her. It really does suck, she a beautiful dog and she's great with my family its just a shame how aggressive she is with everything else. But thanks it means alot. Hopefully we can fix her aggression but if not I have to do the right thing.
Title: Re: aggressive female dogo Post by: dub on March 05, 2012, 02:55:54 pm I have heard of getting an aggressive dog under control. But I have heard of big foot too. How old was she when you got her? Do you know her history? I say a dog never bites without a reason but you may not know the reason. If you don't know why she attacks you can't correct the behavior. I have had to deal with too many dogs like that. People could not do what needed to be done and dumped the dogs out in the country. Then they killed other people's dog's. I lost two dogs because someone did not want to put a dog down that should have been. Some people call it a fight when I say they are establishing dominance. But to take a chunck out of another dog is a fight. then other dogs will learn to fight and you have to put down more than one dog. I used to work with guard dogs and there is no way I would put that dog out anywhere. That is a lawsuit in the making.

Hopefully we can fix her aggression but if not I have to do the right thing. Like it's been said, I think rehabilitation would be possible. Im sure it would be a long hard road, but possible nonetheless. She has already been taken out of the gene pool, so I would say it's worth a shot. Also, what of her history? it may be something simple. The easy way out would be pawning her off on someone else, another easy way out would be culling her. Rehabilitating her would be a long difficult process I think. Have you consulted a professional? Title: Re: aggressive female dogo Post by: treeingratterrier on March 07, 2012, 03:48:55 pm I'm not going to breed her. I never was planning on it. I'm going to try to have someone work with her and if that doesn't work I will have to do what I need to do. Just saying in case you do not know, if this dog ever has a problem down the line or at your house you have given perty good statements that you know this is a dangerous dog and have it in your possession and control, you have to have signs posted on your property, if this dog ever gets loose and bites anything you are facing criminal and civil charges that could start at $35,000 for a lawyer to defend you in a civil trial for damages if it bites anybody. Shoot it and get out of the dog business with this bloodline or breeder who produced this idiot. Title: Re: aggressive female dogo Post by: Miller Lite on March 07, 2012, 04:01:19 pm sounds like the dog aint worth the feed an a .22 ball is dirt cheap ...
Title: Re: aggressive female dogo Post by: dodgegirl on March 07, 2012, 05:51:07 pm Once again I will repeat myself, she is spayed and there was never any intent on breeding her. I have signs all over my yard saying beware of dog. I am fully aware of what would happen if she were to get out. I'm going to have someone try to work with her. If he is not able to help her then we will go from there.
Title: Re: aggressive female dogo Post by: Peachcreek on March 07, 2012, 05:59:48 pm good luck with what ever you do! my advice is that are too many good dogs out there to waste time and money trying to correct a bad one. I had a bad one once and my blindness cause a loved one a night in the ER. Do what is right....
Title: Re: aggressive female dogo Post by: dub on March 07, 2012, 10:27:50 pm I still ask, how old was she when you got her and do you know of any problems that may have started this?
You asked if it could be worked out but you have not told us the cause or any facts just the problem. Without knowing that you are only going to hear to put the dog down. I have worked with dogs that were abused but you have to identify the triggers. To be honest they will always be a loose cannon but if you want to take that chance it is up to you and I would never recommend it. Like if someone asks how to base jump off a building. I will not recommend because if something goes wrong don't look at me. But if you are going to do it anyway then take precautions. After going through what you are asking about I personally will never do it again. If you give some facts I can answer better. If you do not know the cause or the triggers then get really strong kennels and only let the dog out alobe and supervised by you. Set the kennel up so someone can give the dog food and water without going in the kennel. A two part kennel that the sections can be closed from outside so the dog can be contained to allow someone to clean the kennel. You can say you will always do it but if you have a problem and are hospitalized others may have no choice but to put the dog down. It is a lot but if you think the dog is worth it then do it. Title: Re: aggressive female dogo Post by: Melonhead on March 08, 2012, 04:51:31 am Just wondering - how much exercise does the dog get?
Have you tried running her on a bike until she can't go any longer? Work the crap out of her, make her too tired to even think about anything else, then start some training with her, don't push it, slow. Ohh and wear some boots, cause you still might have to put one to the side of her head. I've noticed when these dogs don't have an outlet - certain issues can come up.
