Title: Any Antique Cowboy Gun Collectors?
Post by: YELLOWBLACKMASK on March 04, 2012, 02:57:30 pm
Always curious about the old Cowboy era guns. Dont gave alot of money to get into it full blown but have a couple decent lil rifles and am always watching for those targets of opportunity that may present themself.

These are a couple of original 1873 Winchesters that I have came across several years ago.  One was manufactured in 1890 the other was 1879. The longer one was sent directly to a large ranch in Mexico from the factory and I picked it up about 130 plus years later across the border in McAllen at a gun show.
The shorter one I haven't done any back tracking on it yet but picked it up off of a feller that needed money and was his fathers old gun collection who had passed away. They are chambered in 44-40 and I believe 38-40.

Anyway I think its Perty neat owning a small piece of history and also get to smoke a possum' arse with a 44-40 slug. Haha

So anybody else have some oldie cowboy stuff that we could check out?

Enjoy

Man I surely dont know. The short rifle was modified long before myself or the man I purchased it from. Aside from the shortened barrel the wood and all external and internal parts are original.

The full size has all original parts except for stock.

Both are in shooting condition and I have the 44-40. But cannot afford a box of 38-40. Would be like shooting gold bullets. Lol

My next project will probably be an original 1877 colt lightning revolver if I can find a decent one.
