Title: What tha hay!
Post by: KevinN on March 10, 2012, 01:07:55 pm
I've never owned a yellow dog up unroll recently. Never had anything against them, just never owned one. This being the case I'm not real familiar with the breed. I saw a litter of pups posted earlier that I'm pretty sure were full blooded and there were some solid blacks in the litter. I'm getting a pup from a buddy who just had a litter and there are two solid blacks in it. I guess I could research it myself and I might later but for now I'm just gonna be lazy and ask "what tha hay?". Why is this?

Hahahaha, I knew you would chime in Robert. But honestly, if someone would help me out here. I have researched a little and can't find an answer. I know you get different looking dogs in the brindle BMC line, and can get brindle or black plotts and lord knows how many combinations outa the catahoula but I always thought two yellow dogs would give you yellow, two reds would give you red, etc. help me understand this somebody.

How old are they? Most yellow pups are born black or real dark and turn yellow with time.

Yeller Dog Breeders Beware,
    You had better build tops on your dog pens.  Those dang crows will fly in when you ain't looking and violate your female dogs.  I don't know how this happened.  I followed the instructions in the manual issued by the Straight Yeller Club.  I've been feeding the yeller dog breeder pellets and I've put the lemonade in their drinking water.  YBM I need help.  Is there any kind of a pill I can give these pups to reverse the color, or any solution I can dip them into?  Mike, did you or Tshelly spray something on my dog feed during the Blake Granberry competition?

I was trying to make a joke.  Maybe I'm just not funny...

I don't have a real answer to your question though.

Some pure bred YELLOW BLACKMOUTH CURS turn out brindle, or with a black saddle. MOST All yella pups are born darker than they're gonna turn out.  ;)

I don't have any good science to back this up, but I always figured it was because a bmc is a CUR, which means it was made up of several breeds. There  may not be anyone who can say for sure what all breeds are in a bmc. There will be some throwbacks and variations because of this. Besides they are black mouth curs, the name doesn't say anything about the body color, only the  mouth. Why do  they have to be yellow? I have a good dog that is 7/8 bmc and 1/8 b&t hound. He is black and tan and is built like a cur. Like I said, just my theory.

   Dude, the straight yellow dog lines will only produce yellow pups.  Certain yeller lines will produce an occassional black and tan pup, about 1 in 200 pups.  Same thing with a straight red cur dog line.  If the line has been crossed with brindles or blacks, then there is no telling what color you will get.  Random gene selection.     "No blacks in the straight yeller dogs."

black is a dominant color in a dog. yellow is a recessive. each dog has a pair of genes for color. if the sire is Bb and the dam is bb. some of the pups will be born yellow and some black... but if the sire is BB all the pups will be black even if the dam is bb because the sire has to pass at least one"B" and all B's are dominant even if one sets up in the pair. for a pup to be born yellow two b's have to pair up.

BB = black

Bb = black

bb = yellow

each parent passes one gene for color in this set up...

black dogs in the ybmc is not a full blooded bmc in my opinion. probably some type of hound or pitbull in the wood pile.
