Title: Cow working pics for JDT Post by: Circle C on March 21, 2012, 04:18:38 pm JDT has been in town for a few weeks and we've been trying to show him some of Texas while he's down from Tennessee. Here's some pics from the cow working on Sunday and Monday.
This is how the day started on Sunday. First I bridged my 24' alum stock trailer in this spot, then Ben bridged his week old easely trailer. (http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/484910_10150598567682407_558347406_9402149_1711112937_n.jpg) Dogs hunted for a couple hours on the east ranch, found one cow, then we crossed over to the west ranch and found this group of about 40. (http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/483592_10150598716532407_558347406_9403086_317746917_n.jpg) Monday we ended up in Cistern penning Ben's cattle. 50 hd of brahman, and none of them dog broke. We let the dogs chew on her a bit, then tied her down and drug her in the trailer. It's amazing the difference a couple months of rain has made on this country... in the winter there were cracks in the ground 6 inches wide. Title: Re: Cow working pics for JDT Post by: Circle C on March 22, 2012, 11:16:41 am Mike,
If that question was directed at me, the short answer is no. ;) I've been working with my Ruby dog, the one that looks like a bird dog in the below pic. She knows enough to play with at this point, but she is not useful enough to pen a set of cows without the help of an older dog. She needs some more handle on her. Crack a whip and she's headed to the truck.... I'm going to work with her on that around the house. A few times she made me proud this weekend, and a few times I questioned if she was going to make the ride home... I'll keep working with her, and hope that she progresses to a point that I can call her a cow dog. (http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/539505_10150867150443626_547663625_12455378_289468898_n.jpg) The yellow dogs in the pic belong to JDT, they are some young dogs out of Clue Anderson's stock. Some nice dogs with a lot of natural drive. The saddleback dog is what I want in a cow dog. He belongs to my friend Ben. He has just enough range to be effective, but not so much that you are making enemies with the neighbors. He's got a pretty good handle, and the grit when needed. His dad, Rowdy, came from the Tiner's in the Bastrop area. Here's another pic of Ruby working with some of the old roping cattle at the house. Next time remind me that the "camera" person needs to be mounted!!!!!!!! in order to be on the right side of the shot! I will be there!!!!!! no more excuses, and I damn sure could helped you with that runner, I do have a RCD!!!!!!
