TERMS USED IN THE FIELD THIS IS JUST A LITTLE SECTION I ADDED FOR FUN. WHEN I FIRST STARTED HUNTING, I NOTICED HUNTERS USING TERMS I WASN’T FAMILIAR WITH (TYPICAL CITY BOY). HOG HUNTERS SEEM TO HAVE A LANGUAGE ALL THEIR OWN. SO HERE ARE SOME OF THOSE SO YOU DON’T GET LOST IN THE CONVERSATION. 1.) SHOAT- A SMALL HOG 2.) BAY- TYPICALLY WHEN DOGS BARK AT A HOG TO KEEP IT FROM RUNNING 3.) STRIKE DOG- A DOG THAT SEARCHES OUT AND FINDS THE HOG 4.) CATCH DOG- A DOG THAT GRABS ONTO THE HOG AND HOLDS IT 5.) GYP- A FEMALE DOG 6.) STICKING- TO STAB A HOG 7.) MULE TAPE- HIGH STRENGTH FLAT ROPE USED TO TIE A HOG 8.) HOBBLES- STRAPS WITH RINGS USED TO TIE A HOG 9.) BOOGER BARK- BARKING A DOG WILL SOMETIMES DO WHEN IT IS LOST 10.) CUTTERS- A HOG’S LOWER PROTRUDING TEETH 11.) WHETTERS- A HOG’S UPPER PROTRUDING TEETH 12.) BARR HOG- A CASTRATED MALE HOG 13.) BAYED SOLID- THE DOGS HAVE THE HOG STOPPED AND SURROUNDED (YOU MAY ALSO HEAR THIS CALLED “HEMMED UP”) 14.) WALLOW- A MUD HOLE A HOG WILL ROLL AROUND IN TO STAY COOL 15.) RUB- A POLE OR TREE A HOG HAS RUBBED AGAINST, SOMETIMES LEAVING MUD THERE. 16.) TRASHING- WHEN A DOG IS RUNNING OR BARKING AT SOMETHING ELSE BESIDES A HOG 17.) SOUNDER- A LARGE GROUP OF HOGS 18.) RALLY- WHEN A GROUP OF HOGS TAKE AN OFFENSIVE POSTURE PREPARING TO BREAK A BAY Title: Re: terms used in hog hunting?
