Feel free to steal this one and repost it everywhere on the web. It ain't mine but I got it from Facebook, therefore it's in the public domain now. Title: Re: Make this photo famous Post by: RL on March 28, 2012, 07:39:35 am Income taxes, which I suspect is the aim of this pic, are at historical lows. They were much higher in the past ... and will be higher in the future.
So how high have they been? As high as 94%. Yes, that's right, 94%. That was during WW2. Historically, income tax rates have always risen during wars. For the first time, they went down during a war (Iraq and Afghanistan). In the late 70's (no ongoing wars), when I entered public accounting, earned income was taxed at 50% (currently at 35%). Passive income (dividends, interest, etc.) were taxed at 70% (dividends are taxed currently at 15%). Capital gains were taxed at 50% (currently at 15%). Title: Re: Make this photo famous Post by: Hogsnatchers on March 28, 2012, 07:59:39 am More than likely aimed at the fact that in less than four years the national debt has increased.more than in the previous 8 and that now more than 46% of our national debt is held by foreign countries. Not to mention the multitude of entitlement programs that are being abused. Redistribution of wealth as they like to call it. The exact opposite of how this country was founded.
Title: Re: Make this photo famous Post by: matt_aggie04 on March 28, 2012, 08:04:13 am Robert I would agree that they have been higher but do you feel there is a coralation between the deficit being as large as it is and the "low" income tax rate? Also, aside from the cost of war would you not agree that there are exponentially more "programs" that the taxpayers keep afloat today than there were during WW2? Do you not feel that we seem to operating on a limitless budget in this country with no idea of how to pay it off or is that just me? It probably also worth noting that there are roughly 200 MILLION more people in the US today than there was during WII.

Title: Re: Make this photo famous Post by: RL on March 28, 2012, 09:45:40 am Matt -- yes, I agree that there is a correlation between the large deficit and lower income taxes. And yes, I agree there are so many more programs than in the past that demand funding.
Almost all politicians (regardless of party affiliation) are willing to spend endlessly if it helps them be re-elected. They only favor spending cuts that do not impact their district, state or consituents. They are all hypocrits about spending. Rich or poor, Republican or Democrat, left or right ... people want their funding continued and everyone else's cut. The result ... more spending across the board. That will ultimately lead to higher income taxes. Title: Re: Make this photo famous Post by: Eric on March 28, 2012, 10:01:20 am I am not against paying taxes but I am against throwing good money after bad. If you send an alcoholic into the grocery store with $20 he is going to come out with alcohol. Same thing with the federal govt. Its time to cut off the income side and let them decide what really matters. Not operating on a budget and spending at will doesn't work for any one... not even the govt.
Title: Re: Make this photo famous Post by: RL on March 28, 2012, 10:11:25 am Its time to cut off the income side and let them decide what really matters. Getting re-elected, that is what really matters to a politician. Spending in their district/state is a well proven fomula for accomplishing that. Title: Re: Make this photo famous Post by: Quillin1 on March 28, 2012, 12:10:32 pm RL I wondered if there was any liberal hog hunters out there.I have yet to meet one.
X2 hogsnatcher Like the pic.sums it up for most Americans who don't have there hand out. They were much higher in the past ... and will be higher in the future. But what was considered income back then? Oh they have got much better at taking your money. If you go trade something without any money that is considered income now. The taxes went up to pay off government debt. But now the National Debt is higher than ever. How can the government get a loan without a job? I guess income tax will be at 110% soon just to make sure that you have nothing. So how high have they been? As high as 94%. Yes, that's right, 94%. Exactly, so we only send them enough to fund the military and pass a balanced budget amendment so they cant spend more than is coming in. if they want to act like children we will treat them like children. X2 hogsnatcher Like the pic.sums it up for most Americans who don't have there hand out. Quillin -- I guess you found one. Kind of. Well, what many of you would consider one anyway. I do not view things as simply liberal and conservative though. I am either, depending on the topic. On fiscal issues, I am conservative. Both in my personal life and preference for politicians. On social issues, I am liberal. I carry a gun (CHP). Policially I am an independent. I vote for both Rs and Ds ... like some of both and don't like many of both. Oh, and I do trap hogs. Have for more than a decade. I also run marathons. I cycle. Probably not things most hog hunters do. Title: Re: Make this photo famous Post by: RL on March 28, 2012, 03:58:44 pm Exactly, so we only send them enough to fund the military and pass a balanced budget amendment so they cant spend more than is coming in. if they want to act like children we will treat them like children. Since they write the laws and rules, it is hard to persuade them to limit their income to just enough to fund the military. We haven't even been able to persuade them to pass a BBA. They know that is what we want, but it will limit their ability to spend to be re-elected. Title: Re: Make this photo famous Post by: RL on March 28, 2012, 04:03:59 pm How can the government get a loan without a job? You made a reasonable argument ... until this Q. Why do you presume a loan is made relative to a job? Most are not. Most loans are to entities (companies, governments, etc.) that do not have jobs. Title: Re: Make this photo famous Post by: matt_aggie04 on March 28, 2012, 04:09:03 pm But anything getting a loan has to show a plan for paying it back and show fiscal responsibility, two things the gov lacks dearly!

I DO NOT MIND being taxed for that which is NECESSARY to maintain structure in our society... HOWEVER, when I see an INCREASING minority LEARNING to WORK the system.... I feel terribly burdened as I personally slave away to provide for USELESS MOTHER F'ERS.
I can give MANY MANY examples. Title: Re: Make this photo famous Post by: RL on March 28, 2012, 08:00:10 pm Forcible reduction of frivolous/non-vital spending... how can this be achieved? I think we all have items that we think they shouldn't fund. For me, it includes such things as symphanies, theater, arts, lots of "research", and I agree that much of our well intended support systems for the needy need to be revised and restricted. The problem is ... in the how. Title: Re: Make this photo famous Post by: waylon-N.E. Well said Noah and 100 how I feel. The scary thing to me is I'm afraid there are enough lazy people who want to be taken care of voting now that he will get back in for 4 years. Title: Re: Make this photo famous Post by: Noah on March 28, 2012, 08:21:23 pm Purely on a numbers basis, I would be interested to see a simpified spending budget(a pie if you would ;) ;D) on how much our gov't spends on "social safety nets" vs. other ventures... i.e. various wars, infrastructure, intelligence, security, military.... etc...
As much as the "social safety net" issue aggrevates me, it is probably because I am forced to deal with it on a daily basis... and not solely responsible for our government's demise... Moreover, spending on a whole... the afformentioned only illustrates a theme of all structures that we might not even be privy to. Title: Re: Make this photo famous Post by: cward on March 28, 2012, 08:45:45 pm Well goshly look what you done stirred up t Bob. ;D I have stepped both feet into politics I have some good plans and I am very serious when I say I plan on working for the people. The way I see it if you want something fixed then get in there and fix it yourself. It can be done.
Title: Re: Make this photo famous Post by: yellowdog on March 28, 2012, 08:53:00 pm I may be wrong but I think the picture and caption pertain to Obama's spread the wealth agenda. But you may be right and it could be about our really low taxes right now.

I cant remember the numbers.... but I believe if we only fund the military and medicare/ medicade.... we are over budget. The military is a little over half. |
