Title: What to do? What to do? Post by: hog bit on April 21, 2012, 08:18:28 am My catahoula Billy got his first good cut down Wednesday evening. He had his scrotum ripped open on one side and a good gash on each side of his ribs. I put everything back where it goes and stapled him up.
When I went to give him his antibiotics Thursday morning he started bleeding pretty good. I found another wound above his scrotum kind of in the pit of his back leg. He bleeds pretty good for a little while and stops, but every time he lifts his leg or move around a bit he starts to bleed again. I am giving him calf liver twice a day, but I am about switch to pork liver because the grocery only had a little bit of calf. I am also giving him 2 squirts of nutri drench for goats directly in his mouth twice per day. I am rinsing him off with veterecyn twice per day. So far the wounds all look to be clean, but I am worried about the bleeding. He doesnt seem to be feeling very bad. He wants to get out of his kenel and run around, but I am trying to keep him calm. Any advice? If he is still going on like this by Monday should I bring him to the vet. Title: Re: What to do? What to do? Post by: M Bennet on April 21, 2012, 08:23:10 am vet,vet , vet

It is high but worth it if you have a good investment out there with you. Good luck. P.S. You get cut bad in the field and it will save you.................

Title: Re: What to do? What to do? Post by: hog bit on April 30, 2012, 06:08:43 am RedRiverDogos - Thanks for the tip.
Jimco - Billy is doing great and can't wait to get into the woods. I put him on crate rest the day I posted this, and by Sunday evening the heavy bleeding was gone. He was still bleeding just a little when he got up to move around, but that has stopped as well. He has a few more weeks off while the low hanging fruit finish healing. |
