We went hunting this morning and bayed up in a pool and killed two water moccasins and now my dogs foot and leg is swelling up pretty bad so I think thats what bit him.. What can I do or will it jus run it's course and be ok.. People I have talked to said he will be fine.. Let me know ASAP on your input..!! Thanks

I usually let it run it's course unless it's been more then twice.  Be sure to take the collar off, seen lots of good dogs choke to death because their neck swelled up after they were bit.

Give him a couple antihistimines and a little dexamethzone depending on what strength you have 2 or 4 mg.  if 2 I would give 2 cc.  4mg then a hair over 1 cc to keep the swealing in check.  Also hit him with penacilin for a few days 3 2 1 1 1 just to make sure no infection.

I always let mocassin bites run their course plus a lil Benadryl maybe but that's a bout it. Mocassins have never seemed to hurt my dogs much, copperheads are a different story.

I've always heard they will be fine after it runs the course.. How would u keep em hydrated and everything during the cycle? What about food?

In my experience " it's course" generally only a few days with mocassins and I've never actually worried about them staying hydrated, but if the bite has their face Nd tongue swollen, you could always dump a lacerated ringer sub-q and bag him up
