Title: ybmc cant bark Post by: Rmorris27 on April 25, 2012, 04:33:35 pm He is 14 months old and hasnt been able to bark since ive had him. I got him when he was 5 weeks old. He gets a good 3 or 4 barks out then looses his voice. He barks and bays his but off but no sound comes out except a faint horse sound. his chest and throat bulge out like a frog croaking when he is barking. I never took him to the vet cause i thought he might grow out of it. He is turning into a good dog. Took him hunting last night and got on a good 1 but he was alone and thank god for garmin or we never would have known ended up getting 2 dogs cut down trying to catch it. its hard to get dogs to go help a dog they cant hear. Has anyone ever heard of this and if so can it be fixed? Any help or advice is appreciated.

I have heard of poachers clipping the vocal cords on hounds and utilizing bells on their collers for location. But I would say attempt to make him a one man show or train your help dogs to sing along to jingle bells. With the technology of garmins. You can utilize him effectively as a strike dog by himself or get a youngster to pair up with him that wont leave his side. Then let the youngster sing the song to your bay or catchdogs after he finds em. Good luck. I agree, i think you last paragraph is spot on, if he is good enough build your pack around him, get 1 or 2 young dogs thatll stay by his side.
