Title: Splitting a litter?
Post by: Brushraider on April 29, 2012, 11:53:06 pm
Does this work? The guy who gave me all my dogs is breeding his female to two males because this will be her last litter and he wants some pups from both. Femes is 1/2bmc 1/4cat 1/4dogo 1male is a bluetick and the other is 3/4pit 1/4running walker. Will it be possible to tell a difference as pups? Or will they all come from one dad?

Yes it will work, the pups will either be 1 daddies or the others, 1 pup wont come from both sires, itll be 1 or the other but she can have pups from both males.

You may have a good idea of which dad the pups came from, but you won't know for sure until you do a DNA test on em.

I am doing the same thing and have before but I'm breeding a Plott and a yeller dog to a black catahoula.   Hopefully I can tell.

In the past it has worked but I have never done it on purpose.  This time they propbably won't split.

What is the ideal time between breedings.  Should you try to go back to back or a day between?

If not visually obvious, the only SURE way to tell on a dual sired litter is to DNA profile them. I've seen people do this alot over the years, and it varies. Some get a few pups from the one male, and some from the other, some have had a whole litter off just one of the two males. It's variable. There is no set result.

Thanks! Cant wait to see the litter. I wonder if the will come out in the order they're bred? I doubt it. Hopefully I can get one of each

i believe it would be hard to tell because most except for those that are merle or glass eyed...more than likely the mere will not show up...
