It was 3 different peoples dogs we were hunting a tourny. I only to catxh dogs. Ill deff agree some are to lean.

I ain't never seen a fat athlete. You will be surprised when a dog is truly hunted hard and catching tons of hogs he ain't gonna be fat.

I noticed that red dog. That's the only one I have ever seen him bring down here. He has hunted with me a few times here at school.

Dogs look like they are in good running shape. I see fat dogs and think they are not hunted enough or they don't have the heart to run the fat off.

Looks like good hunting shape to me. Course that wind block sticking up there prolly killed the fuel milage on that ford.

 I have noticed that it is easier to look at the condition of the dogs hair/coat. A dog under fed will have rough/nasty looking coat. Gunk around the eyes and just a poor look to them.
 I think way too many people use the "they are hunting dogs" excuse. When you feed cheap dog food that is lacking , then hunt the piss out of the dog you are putting strain on the kidneys and other organs. Do track stars eat Ramon noodle? NO. Expect your dog to hunt 10-20 miles per hunt but feed the cheapest feed you can find b/c of costs. If you cant afford to feed decent food at the right amount get rid of some dogs. Pretty simple.
  This is not directed at the people in this thread. Just got tired of seeing people use the smae excuse over and over.

X2 finally someone sees my point of veiw I may not hunt my dogs 5x a week but they run plenty of my property and eat well no fat dogs here only non rib and hip showin dogs who work there hearts out , 45$ bags of dog food 3 times a week no soy no wheat no corn
Wasn't knockin no one but pics tell a thousand words and when u see that many loaded up and half showin bone maybee its time to let go of a few dogs and feed the others better , after reading that there a few diff peoples dogs and a lil closer look I can see that some feed right some don't cuz there's some damn good lookin dogs there

Yall hunt yours we hunt ours. These dogs arent track stars they are hard hunting hog dogs. Plus it was 3rd day of a tourny... Comparing hog dogs to highly paid athletes is pretty ridiculous. Most of the peoples who dogs are in the pic arent even on here to speak for them. They are on the lean side, yes. But you making assumptions about what dog food is used is pretty humorous to me.

And there are two dogs that are too lean for my taste. The red dog on the bottom of the truck is about 8 yrs old and doesnt have one tooth left in his mouth. Still the best strike dog to this day ive ever seen. If you hunt as much as you talk and post on a blog you would know how hard it is to keep weight on a 8 yr old hog dog.

I do know how a dog will "suck down" after a hard hunt, but hell I've got a 7 year old dog that will hunt as long as you'll let him and eats $20/bag dog food - looks way better than that.

Well pictures don't say much and there's no need for a pissing match.  Some dogs always look thin, it's the way it is.

It's been my experience that you better cut the feed down and get your dogs in shape if you do any kind of summer time day hunting.  It's rough on a dog when you turn him loose at 1 o clock in the day on a track going into a cutover with no cloud cover.  If he's fat, he won't last long, you'll be tracking to your dog for your collars.

And as far as comparing dogs to professional athletes, it's about the closest thing to compare them to, and still the athletes fall short of a real hog dog.

Oldest dog I have is 11. My main catch dog is 6.5.

  I will never have the need or will want to drop a dog when it is 100 outside.

Im not usually 1 to say something about peoples negative comments but sometimes they are rediculous. I browse this forum everyday via mobile at work and this thread really struck me wrong. ive been dog hunting for my entire life and some dogs are just built that way no matter what ya feed em or how much you worm em. Ive fed cheap and ive fed not so cheap. some of you paying 45$ a bag or more thats your business getting on here bashing a man because you think his dogs are to skinny is B.S. Im pretty sure he didnt ask you your opinion on how many ribs should show on his dogs or if he should maybe refinance his house to feed em. hes just another fellow hunter like the rest of us thats loves doggin and the great outdoors. good looking bunch of dogs in my opinion. good luck and be safe.

Lol calling you out? Get real. I posted a pic of smethin i thought funny and interesting that i thought people would enjoy lookin at. Im not here to argue about dogs or how to feed them ive been dog hunting since i was 10 yrs old everyone likes and does different things. And buddy believe me ud know if i was calling you out. Dont bring drama and hate on a site like this its pointless you stated what u thought so did i along with others. Just like most people these days quick to criticize and reluctant to praise.

I know that I give my dogs real good, high quality feed and plenty of rest between hunts, they are well taken care of and in awesome condition during my hard hunting season. I also know that at weigh in for the TDHA hunt I put two dogs inside of plastic kennels so that no body would see how bad they sucked down while bustin their humps for me in that comp! I had one gyp perfectly well muscled on Friday night, who was showing half her ribs and hips Sunday afternoon

Let's have you go run 12 miles 3-4 times a week threw briars, palmettos, flag ponds and see how u look LOL. I know there are some ppl out there that don't feed enough and there dogs look poor. This guy said he had been hunting a tourney I could only imagine how much those dogs ran. Like someone Opreviously stated some dogs are just built that way no matter how much wormer or feed your using. My vet always told me the most important thing is just keeping them hydrated if not there coat gets dry and rough and they have stuff around there eyes. All those dogs look a little whipped but overall good health.

i feed olroy , i hope thats not to cheap . but iv got hood dogs they dont run all day . any dog food is better than not eating at all

well said! I fed ol Roy for a long time and few people told me it isn't good food... But my dogs put down miles and they didn't show it. I just switched to Diamond trying to put weight on one, and hear of other people feeding it with no complaints so figured why not... But im aBout to switch again to sportsmix though cause I've heard nothing but good things about it and it's about the same price as ol Roy. so well see... I didn't think that anyone else fed ol Roy... Lol! Was it the high performance? It's really not bad food, and good stools with it as well.

Good looking dogs man! How is that black dog bred? The dogs look in fine summer hunting shape.. People think that if ribs are showing, automatically the dog properly cared for. Every single one of our fogs look similar to that in prime hunting shape. Don't let Internet doggers get under your skin. They are athletes and look the part

Its my buddys dog im not real sure, dane cross i believe. Its a reallly tall dog pic doesnt do him justice. He uses him as a RCD.

dont sweat it man...two of my dogs are litter mates get fed the same amount and hunted the same amount.  One stays busy and has more go, and the other just kinda hangs around till something good hppens or the other dogs perk up.  The same one that stays busy is constantly moving in the pen while the other one will lay around.  Guess which one looks skinny and which one looks fat?  Every dog is different, some of them it dont matter how much you feed them

I was taught  that a good hunter ate what they killed ,my dogs hunt hogs so they eat pork . I don’t feed meat every day but add it to their food two or three times a week . I freeze it for twenty four hours before feeding. I takes some time but the dogs love it and is good for them. I also have chickens and an egg a day over even cheep food will put weight on a hard keeper !!!   And if you want to turn your dogs on feed them at a kill !!!!   Hunt’um up!!! 

I'm knew to this so I have no opinion on food. My dogs have no hip showing but you can see the outline of their ribs on the thinner coated ones. Anyways I have a question about the pic. It looks like 80% of those dogs are pit or bulldog crosses. does this cause a lot of split bays/catches? Jw....looks good

All the dogs in the bottom box are cds bulldog or pits none of the others have pit/bulldog. Tourny we take two sets of cds so they dont get just worn out. Amd hes a cur cross. Other one on top is a 11 month cat. Gyp.

Mostly red cur. Gritty as they get. Used to be a bad a$$ strike dog but got cut up real bad and now if he barks it will be only once and its a huge hog. Use him more of a hog stopper/RCD now.
