Title: mock hunts Post by: seokiehogcatcher on May 20, 2012, 01:40:27 pm I want to start doing some mock hunts for my dogs but I don't have a fenced n area to do it n I don't wanna just turn my hog loose n lose it any ideas on how to hobble the hog so she can move but not run? I can do the hunt on my hunting lease it doesn't have any pigs on it so there won't be any old scents.
Title: Re: mock hunts Post by: bob on May 20, 2012, 07:09:21 pm after I caught the hog in the pin , I hobbled 2 lgs and tied a rope around the hogs waist and half hitched it about three times and dragged it threw the woods and tied it to a tree , he was able to run around but not away and they was able to track from the pin

I say have a friend so MAYBE, I'm not sure but may e the dog will track the hogs scent and not yours. Just a theory. Let us know what works please.

but, what i did...hobble 3 legs of the hog loose (so it could still run) then half hitch around the waist then bout 10 ft and tied of to a broke of fence post and kicked it loose. It worked. but the only bad part was, while i went and got the pups the dang hog circled back to the gate (i was in a pasture that has good scrub but still kinda open). they found it, and the hog was still able to fight them a little, till caught...seems i got one rough one on my hands. He's half bluetick, half BMC. its funny, he trys to "bawl" while caught sometimes Title: Re: mock hunts Post by: Texashogboys on May 21, 2012, 09:35:05 am When we train pups we put hobbles on the back two legs (make sure you tape up your hobbles So the hod doesn't kick loose) and tie a rope to it and drag it out and tie the rope to the tree where the pig can still move around
