Title: dumped dogs Post by: charles on May 28, 2012, 07:13:23 pm there is a female, around a 12-15 mo red with white patch face and stockings pit or pit/cat that got dumped on bottoms east rd in troy tx. i tried getting my hands on her, and was petting her when i decided to secure her and of course i got bit. my own fault, and none to the dog. just in case she aint dumped and was lost by some1 in the temple area, let me know. im gonna try and sucker her in again and get a collar and chain on her. she has a great build and a nice set of jaws on her. any ideas on how to catch her again? dog food didnt work, nor did takin another dog to her. she is very skittish.
Title: Re: dumped dogs Post by: dub on May 28, 2012, 08:57:25 pm If a dog is dumped it is because someone got tired of feeding it or aggression problems. I got tired of burying good dogs and now just bury dumped dogs. It makes me mad every time someone dumps their problem on someone else.
Title: Re: dumped dogs Post by: charles on May 28, 2012, 09:08:30 pm if she is dumped, she just got dumped in the ast day or 2. she aint pulled down and looks healthy, minus the flies eating on her and a few fleas i saw on her. she didnt seem to have any aggression, just skiddish. if she stays arounds but cant get my hands on her, im gonna reach out and touch her at a safe distance before she gets malnurished.
Title: Re: dumped dogs Post by: justincorbell on May 28, 2012, 09:11:14 pm People get this idea in their heads that they are helpin it or givin it a chance by dumping it instead of puttin the dog down..................theres to many freakin strays around as it is. If the dog aint any good for me why the hell would i give it to someone else.......

Title: Re: dumped dogs Post by: djhogdogger on May 28, 2012, 11:24:25 pm Try to draw her in with some kind of meat. It has worked for me in the past with stray dogs. Also, sometimes a dog will trust a woman over a man. I think its something with our higher pitched voices. Good luck. Let us know how it turns out. Title: Re: dumped dogs Post by: charles on May 29, 2012, 06:55:56 am that dog is more scaredofm wife than she is of me. i tried dried dog food and she turned her nose to it, but i took her the scraps of chicken from dinner and she ate them. if she is to good to eat dry dog food, then she is to good to b in my yard
Title: Re: dumped dogs Post by: TinyTexasCowgirl on May 29, 2012, 09:14:27 am Charles, if she wot run away from you, you can get a hot dog, or Twinkie (works better actually) and fill it with about 1-2 cc's of Xylazine or any other tranquilizer the vet will give you and feed it to her, then wait a few mins. it'll knock her smooth out and give you a chance to get your hands on her without getting bit.
Title: Re: dumped dogs Post by: SCHitemHard on May 29, 2012, 09:36:25 am i like megans way of thinkin :P ;D
Title: Re: dumped dogs Post by: charles on May 29, 2012, 12:00:06 pm she wont come right to me and after the ordeal of me catching her and her nipping me, i think she lost trust in me, but i dont blame her, i would de the same. she has been wondering the road and atleast most folks around here will slow down or stop till the dogs moves. i will try her again but i aint got access to any kind of tranque so it will be grin and bare it if she bites again. im not gonna put much effort into her since im not gonna be here to use her here a month or so.

Title: Re: dumped dogs Post by: BA-IV on May 29, 2012, 12:44:55 pm We get dumped dogs all the time. Unless they're aggressive they become farm dogs and never get wormed at all and this is been going on for years and years. I've seen some 12 plus years old and I take care of my hog dogs like kings and worm em constantly and I've still lost them. It's crazy the hardiness of a stray.
Smartest dog I owned was a black lab someone dumped out and at a quarter mile stretch from one field to the other, he could run 32 mph and keep the pace for the whole quarter mile. I guess I should train my hog dogs like that :D Title: Re: dumped dogs Post by: TinyTexasCowgirl on May 29, 2012, 12:51:57 pm Charles, you are in temple right? I can get you some tranquilizer.
Title: Re: dumped dogs Post by: charles on May 29, 2012, 01:49:40 pm i am close to temple. im in troy, a couple miles north of temple just past the north temple loop 363.
Title: Re: dumped dogs Post by: TinyTexasCowgirl on May 29, 2012, 02:09:20 pm Well if you could get close enough to get her to eat a hot dog/twinkie off the ground let me know and I will get you some night night stuff.
Title: Re: dumped dogs Post by: charles on May 29, 2012, 03:12:05 pm She is laying down under my gn trailer in my field. She wont eat out of my hand, but she did eat the leg quarter scraps i took her last night. She possibly would eat a hotdog or something else that the sleepy stuff will fit in.
Title: Re: dumped dogs Post by: TinyTexasCowgirl on May 29, 2012, 04:46:54 pm Ok. I'll be home later this week and will get with you.
Title: Re: dumped dogs Post by: TinyTexasCowgirl on May 29, 2012, 04:53:08 pm Charles, just talked to vet, he has never had any luck with oral xylazine, he said to get a box of dramamine and try giving her 2 of those in a hot dog. She won't be unconscious but it should make her sleepy enough you can "rope" her.
Title: Re: dumped dogs Post by: charles on May 29, 2012, 05:59:27 pm is dramamine an otc med?
Title: Re: dumped dogs Post by: TinyTexasCowgirl on May 29, 2012, 07:01:57 pm Oh heck yeah. Lol it's actually for sea sickness, but I gave my 6 month old pup some for car sickness once and not only did she not puke but she slept like 18 hrs too
Title: Re: dumped dogs Post by: charles on May 29, 2012, 07:10:14 pm i will get some tomorrow. she has been under my gn all day. i went out and give her another leg quater and she was more reluctant to come closer even before she knew i had food for her. im gonna give it 3 more days to get my hands on her, but im not gonna have her fighting my dogs for their food if she chooses not to allow me to put her on a chain. at&t will have a talk with her at a 100yds or so. i dont need her, so im gonna poll the readers and see if some1 wants her if i get my hands on her.
Title: Re: dumped dogs Post by: dub on May 29, 2012, 08:05:05 pm Roping dogs is fun. Better put a muzzle on her when she is out. Sleepy dogs can bite. The only time one of my dogs bit a vet was coming out of anesthesia.
Title: Re: dumped dogs Post by: charles on May 29, 2012, 09:05:24 pm bout the same with me coming out of anestisia. i spit at 2 nurses, bit the doc and tried kicking with the leg i just got operated on.
Title: Re: dumped dogs Post by: SCHitemHard on May 30, 2012, 10:12:45 am you could put a food bowl out and she will learn that she depends on you to feed her, that will make a bond. do you spend alot of time around her?

I do not spend a lot of time around her, I am trying to get my irons out of the fire and get ready to head overseas. A stry is not on my high priority, but I also do like seeing dogs dumpped and then surcum to nature and malnurishment. Title: Re: dumped dogs Post by: SCHitemHard on May 30, 2012, 11:15:04 am i feel your thought, i agree
i see pits and bulldogs runnin the streets all the time up here but i know in the back of my mind that i cant pick them up. |
