Post by: dogo24 on June 01, 2012, 07:40:17 pm
found a dog on here for sale couple weeks ago , talked to the guy and he claimed he was a good one. i was unsure at first but decided to trust him and go ahead and buy the dog .  well long story short , brought the dog home , hunted that next night and it wasnt ten min outta the box and this dog busted a big boar , he did exact what the owner told me he would do !!!  good to know that there are still people out there that believe a mans word and a hand shake still mean something !  thanks jamie

Nice to hear that. Purchasing started/finished dogs is a risky investment. I always appreciate the guys who say "bring him back if he don't do what I told he would." Money back guarantees usually demonstrate confidence.

Yes there are honest people left in this world its just hard to find one  ;D But they are out there. Glad your deal worked out for the best, not many deals do especially with dogs. I like to let the dog sell themselves in the woods.

x2...I will sell a dog using this method...no need to see the dog in the woods...

but I try to never buy a hunting dog...prefer to raise my own or buy a few pups from a known line of dogs...

Yea but this only helps if the buyer of your dog is honest about the whole deal, I sold a dog not to long ago 2 times. The first buyer lied out the butt about the dog while they hunted it for a week and said the dog trashed 3 different times, the dog didnt range out or even show a lil bit of interest in hunting, the dog quit a bay, the dog came back and got in the truck, all lies. Yes even buyers can be dishonest. Thats why I will never give a trial ever again.

Big Ben...you are right...sometimes the buyer could have a totally different hunting style or ways of hunting that doesn't fit with the dog...I haven't had that problem but have seen it with others...I also have seen where the handler doesn't hunt the dogs in a way to bring out the best in a dog...All these things can work against the dog that is on trial...Then it could get to the point where the dog doesn't trust the new owner...and it goes down hill from there...lots of different variables...

but if I am selling a dog I would give a month trial...and I will say why I am selling the dog... if they don't like him they can bring him back anytime in that month...but bring him back in the same condition he left in...doing it this way should minimize anyone saying I screwed them on a dog deal...but if the said dog is truly a cull he wouldn't be for sale to begin with...

Where would selling a dog that carried a genetic default fall under the being honest clause ?

Well I had a dog held based off a bloodline a week ago.  Waited for the guy to give me the information off the dogs collar to verify the breeding and ask about the dog.  Long story short called the guy, he had given the dog out on trial to a "friend" for a month and never thought about it again.  Within that time frame that guy sold the dog to this boy and he got a new job and wanted to sell out.  The guy was clueless when I asked him about the dog and turns out it was pretty much a stolen dog sold to someone who had no idea about it.

I declined to buy the dog and did my best to make the calls to get the facts and try and help the guy fix the problem but looks like his friend wasn't much of a friend.  One more bad experience that was prevented with a lot of questions and some phone time.  It's amazing what you can find out when you try hard enough and make enough calls.

No matter how honest a buyer or seller is. Drama always shadows either side of the fence ..and is inevitable in showing its self eventually.
