Title: Good Hunt... 6.3.12
Post by: Noah on June 03, 2012, 02:18:59 pm
Made a run this mornin', was a relatively crisp morning comparedly... we finally got some good rain a few days ago, and it's been "steamy" to say the least haha...  With water in the ditches, we knew the hogs would be more spread out now that they don't have to rely on specific water holes.  Was a good moon last night, and the hogs moved early... dropped Shiner/Whaler out first and they beat bush for almost a mile as we followed them in the truck... finally found a bedded down sounder in a sawgrass patch and bayed up good... couldn't tell much as the head was too thick to see much, but heard a good hog woof at the dogs as we sent the catch dogs....

Lee's got him a new brush weasle and he been trainin' her by sending her in behind Bucho...  Amazing how much she gets banged up and Bucho never gets a scratch haha...

...Cut them into the grass and hogs busted out like a damn covey of quail haha!  Shine and Lee's CD lined out a lil' barr about a hundred and rolled his ass... caught Bucho up, and sent the dogs on...  They bayed up again about a half mile in, got to them, and again, was bayed in a thick spot we couldn't see into... got within' 10yds and cut both CD's to it again...  silence... dogs crashing through palmettos.... then... BROKE BAY  >:( ;D  (Video, I really enjoy trying to get video... very fun... defenitely puts more heat on your dogs though)

Saw a good black boar slip out(you can just make him out through the brush breaking right to left in the first vid) but the dogs went the other direction on another hog, ran the CD's down(that's always fun  rolleyes ;D) and pushed the "reset" button for the next bay lol  ;D

Few minutes later, bay dogs catch a decent hog a few hundred yds away... sent the CD's for reps, nother sow down!
(http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm192/aprilcmetzger/th_VIDEO0040.jpg) (http://s296.photobucket.com/albums/mm192/aprilcmetzger/?action=view&current=VIDEO0040.mp4)

Caught up and headed back to the truck, switched dogs to Snappa/Camo and they were out for an hour or so before gettin' SMOKED by a lil boar haha... couldn't catch Camo, so left her ass and went to drop Spinner/Sawfish before the heat caught up with us...  walked them into a thick area and after a little bit came on a fresh wallow, looked good size... about that time the old boar hog came flying out of a sawgrass patch right in sight of Spinner.... bad move dude  ;D  Spinner lived up to her name and spun his ass by the nut-sack long enough for her brother Sawfish to get there and help hold bay... not more than a hundred yds away... we were STOKED!!!!  ;D  Wanted to video but it was bad thick, got within' 30yds but couldn't get any closer, circled around trying but no go without spooking the hog... cut the CD's and caught hog!  Good boar handled neatly by the immortal Bucho!!  Catch dogs catching... and bay dogs stayin' the hell away from that front end!!!  Made my day to see my two pups doin' what I bred them to do I gotta tell yall!!!   Not a scratch on anything, just a real good day.

Ive gotten the same way with videoing Noah! I'm going to have a go pro for next season and try and put together some good stuff. I've been working on pretty cool little mixed tape with my iPhone vids, you ought to have enough good clips to get one going too! Good hunt man.. Love to see those dogs

That ain't thick, I can still wade through it ok haha...  there's much, much thicker stuff we hunt in, and vests hang up BAD...  I hate a damn vest for that...  but, the way I figure it... a hog breakin' is better than a caught hog at the cost of a dead dog...  I been movin' for a while towards a style that is as aggressive as possible, yet still yields minimal injuries...  Gritty, yet non head-catching cur dogs... and a catch dog that can handle a bad one by hisself....

... vesting dogs(I currently use a cut down Devastator from Uglydog) inevitably slows down the dog in heavy cover.  If the hog breaks, so be it... just another chance for the BAY dogs to work...  not the catch dog's job to make a hog sit down...

...since I been working dogs like this, I've had much less injury to all dogs... and I like that.

Some guys over here run CD's with no cut gear whatsoever and rarely lose a dog... lots of factors involved however... to each his own... I may even change my mind someday and do the same lol...

Thanks Waylon... you'd never know I knocked his ass clean out a few minutes before with a lighter knot haha...  big dogs take a lot of "trainin' on" ta make them walk the line like that...  Seems the older ol' Bucho gets, the more "pit" is coming out in him... have had to train on him perty hard lately, but he understands and learns from it.  When I say his name, he better tone EVERYTHING out, LOOK at me, and LISTEN.... if not... BAAAAD chit about to happen  ;) ;D

... now that I consider him an "experienced" CD... I'm fixin' ta train his big ass to the next level... turn loose and back off on command... no hands  ;D

If ole Bucho is the same dog in most of your videos then I am very impressed. You got a heck of a handle on him. Maybe one day I can have that luxury. LOL
