One of my younger dogs, a 7 month old bmc pit X is slowly loosing hair on her chest and front of legs. I noticed it about 2 weeks ago, but it was a spot the size of a quarter when 1st saw it. I thought she just got cut in the bay pen, and it didn't look bad so i overlooked it. Now she has another spot the same size on the other side of her chest , and small spots on the front of her legs. I put a new ear tag on her collar not to long ago, but took it off when I saw it spread. Is it maby a reaction to somthing on the tag, mites, or what? Any advice on what it might be, or how to treat it would be appreciated.

Try giving her cod liver oil and possibly magnesium- helps with allergies and skin.  defiantly add in the magnesium if she acts like she is frequently pooping but nothin comes. It doesn't sound like poor nutrition b/c it is generally bigger areas than what you said and they scratch it a modest amount but if so you would want to get em on some cheap minerals or buy expensive dog food, even if none of your other dogs eating the same food are not having the problem.

i had that problem a few months ago with a bmc gyp , i took her to the vet scraped it and looked for mange none found. the vet had me treat it like mange with ivemec, that didnt seem to change anything after about a week i gave up on that.

i talked to an old dog man he said spray it with bleach and water 50/50 in a spray bottle.
 she cleared up with in a week

Thanks guys. My wife is mixing a bottle right now, and I picked up a bag of nutro. So hopfully one of the two will work. She is coming on good so I don't want to rid of her, and i don't want whatever it is to spread to my other dogs.

Could be some type of fungus i use M-T-G for any spots like that i cannot identify and it knocks them out

Could be Staph Infection.

My red cur dog was diagnosed with it and given cep.

Didn't heal the spots all the way though I may try bleach and water myself.

 i noticed a difference in my dogs right away.

Craig, do you wash the dog off after hitting it with the 50/50 mix or do you leave it on and let it dry?  I have a dog that is eaten up with something.....red bumps about the size of a mosquito bite from his chin to his tail.  It started around his collar and started spreading from there. Its getting worse by the day.  His hair hasn't started falling out but I can see that happening at any time.

covering a dog in burnt motor oil will fix most skin and coat problems. especially things like mange. makes them have a really nice coat after all the oil gets off too.

cull buck, I got a bulldog with the same thing it sounds like, and it's driving her nuts. might take her in to get it checked out the next couple of days, If i find out anything there I'll let you know.  at first I thought she'd gotten into some fire ants, but that should be gone by now. 

i gotta bulldog that ive tried everything on, motor oil worked, but not very long. was about to give up and take her to the vet, but found some stuff at h e b for 3 bucks called sulfodene a couple weeks ago. rubbed it every day for a week and her coat is full and her skin has cleared up. shes been looking good for the past 2 weeks. good luck

try this stuff called NU STOCK my bulldog had the same problem sores cleared up and hair started growing back in 6 days u can get it at a feed store its with the horse care stuff

How often do you spray on the clorox an water?

i sprayed mine once a day till it started clearing up, spray em real wet and rub it in so it gets to the skin.

i mixed burnt motor oil and sulfer together after trying everything with in week redness was gone hair was growing it makes a mess but it works ! my buddy tried it after trying everything even the vet he covered his in it and hair is growing back

Try the stuff from the feed store called "nustock" it is a sulfer based product and does real good for skin porblems.

 we had something like that and the vet said it was ringworm and told us to put lamisil at continuous spray and it worked  then i took  a sprayer and  coated  under the shed where the cats once was with ammonia
 cats and dogs =sick dogs  unless the cats are well vacinated wormed and cared for farm cats will cause you lots of heart aches

burnt oil and sulpher. will work on any dog losing hair for mange or anything else

cull buck, that sounds exactly like what happened to my bulldog, turned out to be demodectic mange.  I hope yours is not the same thing.

Burnt Motor Oil is Toxic! don't use on your animals.


M-T-G, Nu-Stock and Sulfodene are all Sulphur based with mineral Oil which is safe for your animals in case of ingesting it.

Nu-Stock is thicker like a paste, and has to be really rubbed into the skin, M-T-G, is in the horse department at the feed stores that carry it, or order online from Jeffers Equine. Sulfodene has to be applied more often.

MTG & Nustock will work on most mange Mites and hot spots,  and fungus such as ringworm, it will aslo repel fleas and flys for a day, and then needs re-applied

M-T-G is around $14.99 for 32 ounces and will last a long time and spreads easily, just make sure you shake well before applying

someone posted about sulfodene. I got some but the instructions say to shampoo it in everyday.
Thats not a good idea as its a 65lb dog with the brain of a pup and loves water. Last time I got more of a bath than the dog did. Would it be safe to just rub the shampoo right on the spots undiluted?
