So I'm kinda worried about running my dogs around where rattlers are. Where I run them now, I've never seen a rattler in 18 years only water moccasins. My lacy did once kill a garter snake so I'm sure he'd be interested in a rattler. Anyways has anyone here had a dog get bitten by one?
P.s. I got his rattle snake vaccines

I had one bit twice by the same snake in the same general location on the back right leg from baby cottonmouth.... Swelled up within hours. Lasted a couple of days then the swelling went down. I kept her on Bynadryl(sp?) and she was back to her normal self in just a few days. Cottonmouth venom is similar to rattlesnake I think.

my buddy killed one a almost a month ago under his daughters house that was 5'8 long an as big around as his forearm 12 rings on his rattle

dogs seem to handle snake bites a hell of alot better than humans ....... when a rattle snake is in defensive mode he conserves his venom , only when its trying to kill its dinner is when they pump alot of poison in it !  on the other hand , young ones have a problem controlling the amount of venom they use so they can sometimes be the most dangerous !  not my words , got it from animal planet ! lol   

Lol animal planet aye. Well hopefully all will be well. About a year ago we shot 5 in less than an hour just driving back to the ranch house. Smallest was 5'6 and the biggest was 5'11. Made some good skins but I still hate em. We shot 3 of them within 20 yards of each other, number 2 was scary. I'm just worried even with the rattler vaccine.

id kill one and let the dogs get close to it and shock the piss out of them with a collar !  might help ?  i dont know never tried it ???

Take your dogs to a snake avoidance class Ive seen it help some may disagree.Two outa my 3 cats ben to snake class they know snake  are bad chit .If I get to close to a snake my female kills em all copperheads. hope she dont take on a big rattler she thinks shes my bodyguard.

Don't own a remote shock collar. I think I'll look into the classes. I found one awhile back and they use the shock collar method.

We've had 4 dogs get bit this year.  Two rattlesnakes and two copperheads. 1 gram of benadryl per pound of dogs weight for 3 days and 5cc of dex does the trick for us. All dogs came out ok.

then grab the dead snake and toss it toward the dog and light him up when the snake touches the dog...

I dont know if id wanna try trainin a dog not to mes with a snake.  Just seems there would be a chance of it back firing.  Lots of stuff out there that can get ahold of a dog, dont know that id want to start tryin to train them on all of the stuff to stay away from.  Just my .02

Snakes is a good thing to stay away from...

Growing up my dad did this or with a live non poisonous snake with all his bird dogs and it worked great, no different than rabbits

We had a dog get bit in thw leg and died.  We also came across a den last year and three dogs got bit but luckily they were all small and they bit the vests we actually witnessed that.  Also if the area your in has an abindant amount of hogs the rattlesnakes will  most likely not rattle.  Hogs will come runnon if they

You can't quit hunting because there are snakes. My country has tons of them. I've had several get bit. And a couple die. Most will get over it .  Most dogs know to back off. A Jack Russell or Jagd does not know.

lol im not gonna quit. I've only hunted my land where we have no rattlers.
where im goin next weekend has tons of em and i just wanted a little info on others situations with em to ease my mind when im out there. thanks for the info guys im sure he will be fine with the rattlesnake vaccine in him

Dexamethasone is the full name . Your vet will ha ve it. And ml gram  on the benadryl. And start them an antibiotic as well. The 5cc of dex was a large dog. 2 to 3 cc for an avg. Size dog. Hope this helps yall.
