Title: Made a trip to Ben's
Post by: bigo on August 25, 2012, 03:48:32 pm
I took a female up to Ben Jordans' to breed. She is a product of the best of Skoal and my breeding crossed to the best of Clue Andersons breeding. Every pup of this cross is making from above average to outstanding dogs. I bred her to the best of Ben's breeding with all the dogs from each yard linebreed to the Big Boy Blondie cross. I can't wait to see what this does.
I sure enjoyed the visit and wish I could have stayed longer. I could listen to stories of gathering hogs and cattle out of those mountains for days. You would have to see the country and hear the distances they drove stock through those mountains. Sometimes they would run out of daylight and have to leave dogs bayed all night and come back the next day to finish. I dought if anyone but Ben has the dog power these days to get that done. I know I don't.

What I woulda give to be a fly on the wall for that visit. Best of luck with the breeding and raising process, although I doubt much luck is needed with dogs of that caliber.

Glad to see you making the rounds.  I bet you got a story or two yourself that's hard to believe about them dogs y'all raise  ;)

I wish I could travel and drink coffee with everyone of the good dog men left.  I hope the gyp has a bunch for y'all!

Due to trains, gators and bad hogs we are without a stud dog and the oldest dogs we are hunting are two years old. We need this cross to work and for her to have a tub full.

Clue had emailed me the other day about you and Skoal going up to breed to the Big John dog. Last fall when Doc and I went to visit Ben we looked at that dog and were mighty impressed. Doc and I both said we hoped to either get the chance to breed something to him or that someone we knew would take a gyp to him. I will bet you and David get some stem winders out of that cross.

That sure is a fine looking gyp that Ben has up there off Cowboy X Sarah. He told me this when I asked about her "Son thats way to much dog for an old man" for him to say that she has to be something special.

If they turn out like any of the dogs in their pedigree they sure will be something special. Now we need to figure out what to do with my 2.

I can't wait to see those pups.  They should be some sure enough hog dogs!
