Title: Question about pup
Post by: ekirkland on August 30, 2012, 12:46:15 am
My oldest pup is about 4 months old and I'll take her walkin around the pasture every now and then and she will bay the hell out of a cow. I don't wanna whoop her off right now being that young so I just let her go at it. But today she got a little ruff and latched on to the cows neck. Haha. I haven't showed he a pig yet but my question is should I start gettin on to her about bayin the cows at that age?

i would let mine bay the cows till the cows started paying attention to them . but i would get on it for catching a cow . for a four month old pup to be doing that , it makes me think it is gonna be a suicidal hog dog when it matures . big differance between grit and ignorance  lol

At that age I don't get on to them for baying anything. At about 6 months I'll start letting them know that it is not cool to bay my horses.  At 4 months I'm tickled to see enough prey drive to see them put their mouth on a cow! It sounds like you have a good pup.

If you  don't want a cowdog, stop it right off. If it was worth having to start with it'll still work a hog, then praise em up.
