Title: tracker maxima Post by: Hogkiller, on September 07, 2012, 08:13:00 pm I have heard that the tracker maxima is bad at getting signal in thick woods and low spots and they don't work very well. I was wondering if any of you guys knew if any if that is true? I am thinking about getting one but don't want it if it don't work good.

It changes the whole way the hunt goes from start to finish. Radio trackers work for what they do but GPS is soooo much nicer. I had the tracker maxima, I traded it and 4 collars for a couple more collars for my GPS

Where I hunt it's thick land, lots of creeks, rivers and pine trees! You will lose signal with that gps way before the radio tracker, I run a dc 30 collar with my classic strike collar if they get out to far and I lose range on the gps I can get a direction to move in so I can pick em back up! They both work good and gps is nice to have but so are the classic systems just IMO
Title: Re: tracker maxima Post by: firemedic on September 09, 2012, 10:54:59 am The GPS tracking system has changed hunting big game with dogs forever.....it's almost a necessity now, makes keeping up with your dogs a joy instead of a chore. However, you would be wise to do as most of us do and run both GPS and a radio tracking system on your dogs. You can pick up used radio tracking collars off ebay at a good price....check with Valley Creek Supply on there. You can also get a programmable scanner to use a tracking receiver for a good price. Get you a Garmin 220 to start with, there should be some in the classifieds on here, along with some used DC40 collars and you're on the way.....takes some money to get into it, but then you're set for a good while.
