Title: How much did you spend? Post by: justincorbell on September 08, 2012, 09:24:06 pm On the best dog on your yard? Or did you breed and raise it?
......some of the recent threads got me to thinking...and at times laughing at loud about the various prices and conversations regarding "finished dogs" or "help dogs"..........any way i was just wondering what some of you have paid......not tryin to be nosey, if ur sensitive about it then dont answer lol! Personally my 2 best were both free furty free.....i am extremely fortunate to have met a damn fine dog man and been able to receive these two from him. I have also paid 400$ to the same man for a young prospect who is really starting to turn it on for me so i guess in a way it evens out....anyway here are my best smoke and spoon (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/09/09/3e9y3u7y.jpg) Title: Re: How much did you spend? Title: Re: How much did you spend? Post by: chads7376 on September 08, 2012, 09:49:04 pm I paid 50 bucks for my two best dogs. Covered shots, wormer and some food. Got em at 7 Weeks old. In the beginning(when they were still 11 months old) I bought and got for free around ten dogs that I gave away or culled depending on how bad they sucked. Only dog I kept that I paid money for is my Stag(which I'm very glad I did).
Title: Re: How much did you spend? Post by: Reuben on September 08, 2012, 09:52:48 pm I will pay 1500 dollars for a young dog if I like how he hunts...but I have to like his back ground because for 1500 dollars he needs to be more than a hunting dog...he has to be worthy of breeding to get 3/4 pups off of him...
Title: Re: How much did you spend? Post by: BA-IV on September 08, 2012, 10:02:28 pm I bred and raised the best dog on my yard!
I have came to the conclusion that any blood on I want on my yard, I'll do my best to raise some puppies off the dogs and see how that goes. Mostly if the dogs are that good, then anything other then puppies will be almost impossible to get a hold of. I've raised a few litters but the most solid dog I own now, I haven't even considered breeding. I don't know why, just haven't. Title: Re: How much did you spend? Post by: J5 on September 08, 2012, 10:26:24 pm Got him free with a dog i bought. TheSecond best was striking when i bought her. Paid 150. Best ive had i paid either 5 or 6 hundred for. Great dog but didnt live long. None of which would tra7h on anything. Which brings me to my view of why someone would break the bank buying a dog that could easily be killed. In my opinion, some people have more money than sence or are too in a hurry to have to have "the best" and would rather buy, or at least spend way too much money, than do it yourself. Dont know who said it originally but there is a saying my great grandpa used to say. " a fool and his money will soon part."

Post by: KevinN on September 08, 2012, 10:53:33 pm Best dog I hunted - $150.
Best dog I bought with intentiins to hunt but turned out to be so good in the bay pen I retired him from the woods - $750 and didn't regret it a bit. He won double that his first year in competition. Title: Re: How much did you spend? Post by: Circle C on September 08, 2012, 11:22:17 pm Paid 1500+ shipping on the best dog I've owned. Would gladly pay 3 times that much to have another just like her.
Some may disagree, but if your enjoyment comes from hog hunting, its cheaper to buy a good dog than it is to raise one. Now, if you like seeing a young dog turn on, and enjoy the training aspect, then it makes sense to raise them. I think its funny that people will spend 12-15k on a hunting buggy, a couple g's on tracking and cut gear, then complain about the price of a good dog. Title: Re: How much did you spend? I agree circle c, i guess im in the middle of the road. I love catching hogs but honestly (to me anyway) it is something special to see a young pup/pups that you have raised hammer for the first time and watch them progress on and turn into good dogs. When I was a bit younger and had more time on my hands there was nothing I enjoyed more than training bird dogs. May seem crazy but I honestly enjoyed working a pup more than shooting birds....i often would go out with buddies and never bring a gun. Title: Re: How much did you spend? Post by: Kid7 on September 09, 2012, 11:30:28 am Paid 500 for my good yella gyp from a buddy of mine. And I have a pup i got for free at 6 weeks old and hes starting to strike over her. Had them both a long time now. Still call that dog a pup idk why he"s prolly around 2-2 1/2 yrs old now
Title: Re: How much did you spend? Post by: bob on September 09, 2012, 11:58:23 am I paid 1000 for one 500 for another both BMC line bred from a old hog hunter , and I paid 200 for a papered bulldog and dont regret buying any of them, Ive raised pups up out of this group and they are now finding hogs , I was very lucky to get these dogs just starting out as a hog hunter

Title: Re: How much did you spend? Post by: firemedic on September 09, 2012, 01:41:18 pm I agree with circle c,....never understood that either. As for me, I traded a dog and $200 boot for my best dog and bought the other one from a friend, I had hunted with her a few times, gave him $200 for her. Best money I ever spent on hunting.
Title: Re: How much did you spend? Post by: Peachcreek on September 09, 2012, 05:41:25 pm i paid 500 for him. he will catch a elephant if the bay dogs will bark at it. >:D
I know you are talking about bay dogs. lol when I find a good one I will let you know the answer to your question. Every time I think I might have somethin special the flaws get pointed out and then it dont feel so special anymore. kinda like a buddy pointing out a run in a new paint job. lmao Title: Re: How much did you spend? Post by: Cpatt3942 on September 09, 2012, 05:54:05 pm Well one of the best we give 75$ for but now we got 4 yella dogs that are beast!! We traded a 2005 Yamaha 450 for but it was messed up the guy still liked it so it was a good deal

In the rodeo world people will spend $200 in entry fees 2-3 nights a week drive a$45,000 truck pull a $60,000 trailer and unload a $700 horse.... & wonder why they can't winn, go figure!!!! Title: Re: How much did you spend? Post by: NechesBobcat on September 11, 2012, 07:27:26 am I've raised all mine but the most I've ever paid for a pup was $200. Best money I ever spent.
Title: Re: How much did you spend? Post by: reatj81 on September 11, 2012, 02:42:25 pm I'm not looking to buy a dog. I feel that I have a few better type dogs. With that being said. If I came across a dog that blew my mind with his-her ability, and I believed they could benefit my breeding, I guess the amount would be however much I felt I could afford to loose at the time! It is hog hunting & we loose some dogs occasionally, so if I paid a great deal of money for a dog it would be thinking I could afford to loose the money! So if I was a millionaire and found the dog I wanted I probably wouldn't mind spending $10,000 on a dog if that's what I wanted! Just like circle c said, people spend 14,000 on a hunting buggy! Heck when I was 10 yrs old I saved a $1000 to buy a horse and made $3.35 an hour!
