Title: UKC World Hunt Post by: bigo on September 22, 2012, 09:56:09 pm A friend of mine from Athens is in the final cast of the world hunt tonight. Old Hot Rod Lincoln will be tough to beat. Van Pearce owns him and is a good dog man and hard hunter who deserves the win, along with Lincoln being a sure-nuff coon dog.

Title: Re: UKC World Hunt Post by: bigo on September 23, 2012, 07:02:48 am Lincoln didn't win it but came in third. Thats not too bad for an old country coon dog.
Title: Re: UKC World Hunt Post by: T-Bob Parker on September 23, 2012, 08:35:46 am I looked at the ukc coonhound Facebook page this morning and it's amazing how many of
The top dogs are treeing Walkers. Only saw one English. A couple blueticks And one plott. Just kinda interesting ;D Title: Re: UKC World Hunt Post by: halfbreed on September 23, 2012, 09:26:40 am yeah it takes a warm nosed dog to win in compitition t-bob , a good ol blue tick and black and tan will still be grubbing out a cold coon track when them walkers are on their third tree lol .

So what i get from your comment halfbreed, is that blue ticks and black and tans are good coon dogs but not suited for competitions. Is that correct? Title: Re: UKC World Hunt Post by: halfbreed on September 23, 2012, 11:41:08 am not at all . just everybody nose the nose lol . the blueticks and b&t's are know for their ability to run and older track and the walkers have been bred for years to be fast and more of a heads up track drifting style of dog . i've ran em all and there have been several of the dark dogs win the hunts . but the hunts are one to two hour limits and the dog that takes a colder track takes longer to work it out and tree verses a dog that takes a hotter track . but if any of the dogs hit that hot track it's anybodys tree . but yes to answer that question for me a good walker dog is HARD to beat in comp. and when i hit the hunts chaseing the money it will be behind a walker dog lol
Title: Re: UKC World Hunt Post by: bigo on September 23, 2012, 12:03:29 pm When Lincoln was ayoung dog he would trash on a hog some and could flat build a fire under one. People that say a hound can't catch a hog quickly, haven't seen one that can drive a track.

People that say a hound can't catch a hog quickly, haven't seen one that can drive a track. I am not an expert on the hounds but I have seen some cold nosed hounds that caught hogs because they were stick to the track no matter what kind of dogs but those dogs might start a track that the curs have no interest in and they open on the cold tracks...Then I have seen a few walkers that were hotter nosed than my mt. curs that kicked up rocks in your face kind of dogs on their way to the woods that hunted hard and could move a track pretty quick...folks accused that mt. cur world champion (Texas Smoke ) of having some walker in his veins, but the Texas Smoke pups made some hard hunting and gritty hog dogs... Title: Re: UKC World Hunt Post by: TChunter on September 23, 2012, 07:01:00 pm my main gyp is a black and tan...she will take a hot track as fast or faster than some curs ive had and ALWAYS has a hog on the end...now if we get to her in time to catch it is diff lol but she is also the same dog i was stuck out chasing last night for 13 hours because of her dang nose and love for catching hogs! lolm
