Title: Re: starting pups Post by: hoghunter71409 on September 24, 2012, 07:56:44 pm I do the following:
5-7 months: Take them on real hunts so they learn how to act and behave in the dog box. They will learn a lot by just tagging along. 7-9 months: Once you have a caught hog, walk the pup to the caught hog and let them learn the scent. They will think they found the hog. Hope they bay a little. 9-12 months: Let them learn to bay and chase in a pen. Once a week or once every two weeks is plenty, dont over do it. 12 Months plus: I start letting them run with bog dogs on small hogs or sows. Everydog and every hunter is different. |
