Title: Book Nuts
Post by: TinyTexasCowgirl on October 09, 2012, 09:43:18 pm
I dunno if there are any other book nuts on here but I'm too excited not to share. I've been restarting my collection that I lost a few years ago and 7 of them finally got here today.

1st Print editions of King of the Wind and Born to Trot BOTH signed by Marguerite Henry
1st Print editions of Old Yeller and Savage Sam
1st Print edition of Smoky the Cowhorse
1st Print edition of Horse of Two Colors
The last one isn't anything real special. A Horse like Mr. Ragman was a book my mom read as a kid and I got it for her.
I am planning to own several more 1st editions very soon.

I remember my fourth grade teacher reading Savage Sam to our class, one hour each day until it was finished. I looked forward to that hour every day.  :)

Good post.
I have all but 7 of those books.  The only early edition I have is Black Beauty.

My Grandfather received the Black Beauty book as a gift from a teacher in 1910 (If I remember correctly).  I will have to look and see when it was printed and when the teacher presented it to him.  She wrote a short note to him and signed and dated it.  I'm curious now.

The only first edition I can find of Lonesome Dove is $100, so looks like I'll be saving my pennies.

There is also one book that is purely sentimental I plan on ordering my Mom for Christmas. But once again, it's $300 so my pennies are being pinched. LOL
