I know that prolapse is a hereditary trait and is passed down by both male and females. Has anyone ever bred a prolapsed bitch with any results or complications? Real curious about this with mixed emotions about the thread. Thanks

My vet advised me not to breed (not that i was planning on it) the prolapsed gyp I had. I had to get her fixed after that heat because it never went back to normal.

Once they prolapse once, they will likely do it again. I would highly advise against attempting to breed a bitch that prolapses. You could do some serious damage. I'd have her fixed to prevent complications. They are prone to infections as well.

Two of the best gyps I've ever owned prolapsed. Both prolapsed during their heat cycle. One prolapsed at the begining of her heat and the other one after she was bred. I ended up spaying both but the one that was bred was'nt fixed until after she had the pups. She stayed at the vet during the last week of pregnancy and when she went into labor they did a sesection and took the pups and then spayed her. The vet said they would prolapse when they came back in heat and it would probably kill them.

Thank you all for the replies. I have a real nice 2 year old gyp that I wanted to breed in a few years. Both cycles she has prolapsed and I give her batril and it eventually subsides. I'll just go get her spayed and be done with it.

I have seen a prolapsed dog have pups.  But vets will want to spay the female.

Vet ASAP really? I have treated the prolapse with batril with success. My question was about breeding a dog with a history of prolapse.

history of prolasp is most times a genetic disorder that will be passed on to future generations . no need in passing on bad genes . they can be put back in and MIGHT  succesfully have a litter of pups BUT  the gyp pups will also be prone to prolaps . and the males will pass the gene into another family of dogs and so on and so on . that is why it is best to go ahead and spay and not breed a prolapsing gyp . nothing more nothing less

yes prolaps is a bad deal,if you really want pups go see your vet if you have one you can trust and will not break your a--. you can breed the girl get you some plastic gloves take vasaline moisten her well and it should go back into place.when she gets close to her due date take her to the vet.he will take the pups surgicaly. yes it might cost you a little but it can be done if you have a vet thats up on things. i have a line half the girls do this and hell no im not getting rid of them cause of it .
