Papers don't make a dog guys hunting them doe's ive been around dogs all my life and by far i could almost prove that papers don't make a dog registerd bmc by far almost the dumbest thing in the world find someone with old blood lines and buy one cheaper and no im not hating if yall have registerd bmcs just stating my point.

Papers don't, the pedigree does...

  just depengs on whom's holding them papers . just as many crappy grade dogs out thar most than likely way  more  lol just stateing 50 something years experiance  lol .  papers are just a road map for the serious breeders .

The registered lines use to be unregistered until someone started a registry to help promote and sell their line of dogs.

its not the pappers that make the dog worth more money. its the bloodline and the name on those pappers. i agree that hunting the dog will make the dog the papers dont do that. but iv had 2 reg bmcs and they seemed to pick there game up at an earlier age then most dogs. jmo

Well i agree just because my two coon dogs are world champ blood and purple ribbon doesnt mean there good coon dogs i cant hunt a dog that i have no clue where it came from and how its bred we have raised all of our dogs like i said my dad has had his bloodline sunce like the 70's and almost everybody has heard or knows him

I ran lots of high dollar bird dogs at one time. They had bloodlines as good as you can get. One dog was the direct son of the national champion bred to a dam that was out of a national champion. This dog was bred in the purple on both sides for several generations.

Without a doubt that dog was the sorriest bird dog I have ever owned in my life. With selective breeding he could have set bird dogs back at least 50 years.

ALL paperwork/pedigrees are is a way to keep track of what dogs were bred to what to produce whom. Nothing more nothing less. Before there were registires way back when, folks used to keep handwritten pedigrees to keep track of their dogs' lineage. All a modern day regisrty does for the most part is take your money to print you a pedigree on a pretty piece of paper to keep in your records, and a registration certificate to tell you that you own your dog, lol.  O0

Y not? 2 of the better dogs ive ever owned I knew nothing about when i got em, 1 was a hound and the other a curr mix.....y can you not hunt a dog if you dont know its background??? Just asking an honest question

I run a kennel of some really well bred foxhounds goes back to the original bywaters virginia foxhound blood and alot farther back with some of the improted english blood. i breed to hunt but keep the paper work going, but it normally doesnt mean a thing. your still gonna have culls and rejects. but its part of the game.

every one of my dogs my dad has bred and raised and i know where they came from which dogs there out of and what dogs there line goes back to i was raised different

To each his own but your gonna miss out on alot of good options if you limit yourself to papered dogs.

If every dog was still alive that I culled that had flawless papers today I would be a rich man because I could sell them for tons of money just by what the papers have written on them .  They were culls with flawless papers some of the very best dogs alive at the time were sires , dams, grandsires , grandmaws  and some are most world known dogs  but I culled and kept only the best performace dogs I did not keep dogs just because World Champion PickaPug was his daddy if he did not make the grade of performace expected he was gone .

Now can you imagine people that are keeping and breeding dogs just on paper and not performace this is what is wrong with a ton of bloodlines of dogs today.  Great looking pedigrees are just great looking pedigrees written on paper that you can wipe your ass with untill the said dog can prove other wise !

Ours is hand written pedigree what im saying is when people are like im gunna buy me some registerd dogs because there the best same way with a horse all it does for you is money and records thats why i think its stupid because saying oh registerd dogs are the best no its not hunting the dog makes a dog and it takes them along way

Five of my seven dogs are registered and I like it that way.  I like to open papers on my dogs and study thier backgrounds.  I believe the hound guys like myself care a little more about registry than the curr dogs guys do.  I've seen plenty of outstanding unregistered dogs, but I just want to know the ansestory of mine.

7M. Your dad is ray modisett right? Does any of yalls dogs ever come out with glass eyes or cracked glass eyes ? Reason I ask is a buddy of mine bought 2 year old dogs and 3 or 4 pups from a guy in lufkin and the dogs were posed to be straight off rays dogs. One of the year old male dogs had a cracked glass eye.
I ended up with one of the gyps.

I understand your dad is a true dog man and has been for a long long time and the ways he does things obviously work well for him...not sure I understand the animosity towards the guys who do it differently though? I don't really care about registered or non registered but to each his own right?

Papers don't make the dog, that I agree on.  But like a professional field trial trainer once told me, and he trained some great Labs on the circuit, "If you want to buy a horse with the intentions of winning the Kentucky Derby, are you going to look in the classified sectioni of the local paper for your horse?"

Best Lab I ever owned had the best pedirgree possible and she lived up to the expectations of every drop of that blood.  Best hog dog I've ever owned is a half plott, half mt. cur.  
I believe my hog dog was the one in a million.  The lab on the otherhand wasn't.

I knew I could bred that Lab to another well bred lab and the odds of good pups was pretty high.  But I go to breed that half breed hog dog, tell me what in the heck I'd breed her too?  I got no foundation.  Picking a male to breed her to is a shot in the dark.

An unpapered dog can and may hunt the hair off my papered dogs.  But they are what I choose to feed, plain and simple.  I don't claim to be an expert in animal husbandry, so I leave that up to the ones that are, in my case that would be Robert Kemmer.

No matter what a person decides to hunt, they have to be happy with it, papers or no papers.  And if the dog won't hunt, papers are just as worthless as the dog.

Sorry guys i was in school lol usually no we had a half running walker named glass that died  alot of our friends had her but i think ben wilson bred her she wa glass eyed who was the guy and i could tell you anything you wanna no about our dogs and yes my dad is ray modisett

Here is something else to think about. Just because the papers say a particular dog is the sire don't make it so. Lots of folks sent dogs off to be bred to a winning male but the female was actually bred to something else.

Not long ago there was a scandal about this in the bird dog world. They got to DNA testing and some folks that had made a great deal of money on dogs got banned.

This subject like a few others always make me laugh a little. For starters, what do you care, if your not buying or owning registered dogs, what's it to you if people prefer to do just that? Their not spending your money or time to do so are they. It's always the same, "papers don't make a dog hunt" that's true, papers are just that, paper. They don't make a dog do anything, but they also don't make a dog "not" do anything either. If someone chooses to spend "their" money on what ever dogs they want, that's their choice. Most of the people that I know could care less about opinions on registration one way or the other, and just chuckle at the haters that show up from time to time. If a person doesn't understand how registration is used that's fine, but some do. At any rate calling out or ridiculing people that have or buy what they like and prefer seems a little juvenile.

Your right, it is your opinion, and you have every right to have it, like all of us on this board here. And everyone has to read your post to know wether or not we like your opinion, so in a sense, yes we do have to read it. Let me help you a bit though on the hater thing-

Papers are just papers and there are culls in them, just like any breed. That being said 7m, if you didn't have your daddy's dogs to pick from, where would you be? Hypothetically, lets say a reg Bmc was the same price as a backyard cur, Dam and sire on both sides are of equal caliber in the woods, which pups would you buy to work into your pack and possibly breed later on? The dogs that has a background you can research and trace back or a cur cross you found and do not know exactly what is in the dogs? you are fortunate to have a dad with a good line that you have had the opportunity to pick genetics from, But that is not all of us....that being said, have you ever owned a jam up registered dog? If so, we're your crosses that much better? And if not, how do you know they're not better in some cases?

 my old dodge 3/4tn hauled close to 18,000lbs of steel and iron over to riverbottoms house.  i havnt hooked onto a gooseneck since i got my new dodge, but im sure it'll do the job as good if not better than my old goat. if u would like, i can bring a smaller chain so it dont overload your suspension when its places on the hitch. its a small lite weight 20tn load chain.
