I'm sure some of you have made some boxes with doors that don't rattle too much. Looking for ideas on latch setups that wont drive me nuts with all the noise.

Chad what kind of latches do you have on there now

I know they look jankey and I hope I'm not offending anyone but a wood box is very quiet.  I don't have a wood box but only because i got a good deal on an aluminum. I weather stripped the door frame and put tight latches on it. The kind of latches that are on a foot locker or tool case.

second attempt

I got some just like those and i only paid 7$ apiece for em. They rattle some but its by the tailgate of my truck and guess i just cant hear it much cus it dont bother me

I use tractor impliment barrel bushings n L-pin (the type that r sometimes used for receiver hitches). Less than $10 for 8 bushings, 4 pins n 4 safety pins.

for 50 a pop you could get some of those .... urban speakers for your truck

Don't know if you can see these very good but they work really well...latch just goes over know and you turn the knob or put pin through the knob

  On these latches, if you wrap the shank part with black tape it makes it fit tight and rattle less

Use a regular brass snap but use rope to tie it to the box.

I have latches like the first pic and they rattled.  I took a piece of electrical tape and wrapped the tape around the door portion and it stopped the rattling.  I have also used door trim to put around doors, the trim seems to come off easy.  Keep searching and thinking and you may find abother option beside cahnging the latch.

I use these kind of latches and if u weld a stop on the door so you have to push the door a little to get the latch to close they will not rattle or pop open when u hit a bump. I usually put the stop at the bottom of the door.

these are like the ones on my box i just use my dog chain an snap in them holes it fits tight so its quite an dogs cant get out

If you guys will beat the shank part out a lil bit it will take all the slack out of the latch and the door wont jar open bouncing down backroads. You have to push on the door a bit to latch but just tap it with a hammer until you get it to latch snug without the rattle.  If you do this you wont need a dog latch
