Title: Feeding a nursing dog Post by: dub on November 21, 2012, 12:00:01 pm I just had a discussion about how much to feed a nursing dog. It was the first time I heard someone say they measure the food. I try to keep food in her bowl all the time. I think not only does it keep the dog with enough food but it gets the puppies on regular food easier. But I would like to know how much you feed a nursing dog?

I've got one like that. Had her on free feed while I went on vacation. I tested it out a few days before we left, She was terrible the first couple days, looked like a basketball. But I just loaded the feeder up with twice as much feed as needed. When we got back she was fat but not excessively. In my experience I think it leveled off after a few days and she may have fed just a little more than the other dogs.
