Title: Gyp lost her voice??
Post by: Marshall on December 03, 2012, 11:14:41 am
I have a 3 year old gyp that has completely lost her voice. She has not been barking enough to have lost it that way. She does not look or act sick in any way. Have any of you ever had a dog mysteriously lose it's voice? Thanks for any info that you may have.

yes i have had it happen , you are fixing to most likely have a little kennel cough spring up , the bark is one of the first symptoms sometimes that and a little coughing .

Thanks Halfbreed. That's what my dad thought it may be. I was just skeptical since I haven't heard her cough yet. What is the best way to treat kennel cough? Thanks again.

time is about all  . it is like our common cold and no cure . you can give the dog a little CHILDRENS  cough syrup to help ease the symptons . and i would separate her from the rest .

I had a great little jagd that decided to climd into my hog pen and ended up on the business end of a very pissed off sow. She got on top of him somehow and chewed him up good, i had to toss my other one in to spin her off of him, anyway after that accident he didnt bark right for almost 2 months, couldnt get much more than a squeek out, it eventually came back but i thought at the time he would never bark again. Has she been on any hogs recently???

You can gice some anti-bio too. Do a search on the www. It helps to get the process over. I cant remember the name of the medicine but I do remember it being one of the ones that you can get to treat fish tanks.

well if you want to give anti-biotics it wouldn't hurt but not really neccesary unless it gets bad  . the drug of choice is smz/tmp a sulfa drug for resperatory and pneumonia  . amoxicillin is ok but like i said it will usually run it's course in a couple of weeks .

Fish flex is Fish antibiotics that work for dogs, you can buy quite a few different ones.
