Title: Juat a question... Post by: kristinad on December 05, 2012, 10:23:13 am I was talking with a friend today from the city about hunting in general.. I thought I would post the topic on here and see what others thought..
Should you get a rush when hunting/killing something? Whether is be hogs, a doe, buck, etc..? Or just when you get something big (big buck/boar etc...) If you dont get a rush, should you be hunting anymore ? Title: Re: Juat a question... Or just when you get something big (big buck/boar etc...) If you dont get a rush, should you be hunting anymore ? i mainly only get a rush on a big bad hog when my yella dogs are standin way back i'll get excited but on little hogs under 200lbs dont get my blood pumpin like they used to .. as for deer anyone thats knows me knows you wont catch me sittin in a deer stand ... if you cant use a dog im not interested ... i have a walker dog i turn out by the house just for a pleasure dog idc what he runs cause i just get ahead of him an shoot at it i get real excited when i hear that big hound turn an start coming at me on that pipeline weather it be a rabbit fox coon deer hog ect i like that lol Title: Re: Juat a question... Post by: KevinN on December 05, 2012, 10:35:33 am I don't think a "rush" should be a pre-requisit to a kill.
On the bigger Bucks/Boars I think it will probably happen but on Does or small hogs I look at it as more of a subsistence kill. Now....if you were starving when it came time to take the shot....you may get a rush no matter what your harvesting. Lol Title: Re: Juat a question... Post by: dub on December 05, 2012, 11:07:16 am I think if killing gives you a rush then you need to get help. I enjoy hunting even if I don't kill anything. I really enjoy stalking deer. I get a rush when an animal is so close I can touch them but they don't see me. Because those are skills. Hunting is just something in my bones. I start feeling down when I don't hunt enough. The kill is just the frosting on the cake and the cake is part of a meal. I get a bigger rush flipping and tying a hog than just killing it. If I just stick the pig it is like I fell short. Yes killing is part of hunting just like it is part of life. There is no rush in it. Now facing a 300+lb hog head to head alone with no dogs, now that is a rush.
Title: Re: Juat a question... Post by: M Bennet on December 05, 2012, 11:14:19 am i dont call it a rush of murder, i get the rush that i beat a animal in his on back yard or play ground, i out smarted him at his own game, its like a chest game

Post by: kristinad on December 05, 2012, 11:24:39 am I meant it like Bennet put it not like a murderer haha. Sorry I should have explained it better.... I didn't think anyone would take it any other way.
Title: Re: Juat a question... Post by: SwampHunter on December 05, 2012, 11:27:43 am I have more fun catching an tyin a hog then killing it , even more so when you do it all by your self
Title: Re: Juat a question... Post by: Purebreedcolt on December 05, 2012, 11:50:28 am I'm with dub I think I get more of a rush out of the hunt/stalk/first bark than I do the kill or catch.

Lol ;D That's funny right there ;D I guess some would call it a rush. Basically it's adrenaline pumping to your organs. It's natural. I don't think you have to quit hunting when you no longer get real excited from the adrenaline rush as you use to. The very first hog hunt I ever been on a huge boar (looked like a Volkswagen Beetle at the time) come charging through the roseau cane after me and a buddy. I thought my heart was gonna explode. When he was coming through that cane I was hittin gears I didn't know I had. After it was all over my knees were so week I couldn't stand up. ;D Title: Re: Juat a question... Post by: MOhogger on December 05, 2012, 12:31:14 pm The rush for me comes when i hear the dogs bay. After that something crazy would have to happen or be a close call kind of encounter. I do get a rush legging a big ole rank boar thats giving the dogs a lil trouble hangin on to, but once hes down the funs over wether your gonna stick em or tie em.
I get a bigger rush watchin the kids wrestlin them suckers than anything else though. Best hunts are always with the kids and the pups. Title: Re: Juat a question... Post by: M Bennet on December 05, 2012, 02:37:49 pm halfbreed , if you go to pee peeing on yur self ill send you some depends, lol
Title: Re: Juat a question... Post by: halfbreed on December 05, 2012, 05:04:29 pm lol gettin on up in years i might need some for long lol
Title: Re: Juat a question... Post by: Reuben on December 05, 2012, 05:53:34 pm I have hunted deer off and on since I was old enough to shoot...but it has been a long time since I have had a rush on a deer hunt...
I can't say I get a big rush over a big boar but I get one with outstanding dog work...haven't had that in a while... :D but catching big hogs feels pretty good no matter what... Title: Re: Juat a question... Post by: pigrig on December 05, 2012, 06:51:09 pm i get a rush just knowing i dont have to work for the day let alone catch anything
Title: Re: Juat a question... Post by: justincorbell on December 06, 2012, 07:13:15 am i dont call it a rush of murder, i get the rush that i beat a animal in his on back yard or play ground, i out smarted him at his own game, its like a chess game Same here Mr. Bennet. Its the fact that I just beat a wild animal at his own game more than the fact that I killed him. I LOVE hog hunting but I'm a big deer hunter as well. I get more of a rush from drawing my bow on a deer or hog and having one in my sights than I do killing one.........Not trying to sound high and mighty by any means but once i have one in my sights i consider it outsmarting the animal whether I send one at it or not...........to me its about the endgame. I hope this makes sense. Hunting is in my blood, If you can catch it or kill it im all about it, species doesn't matter. I would rather be in the woods or on the water than anywhere else in the world. Title: Re: Juat a question... Post by: Easttex91 on December 06, 2012, 08:18:02 am I don't care much about the killing I love to listen to a dog open up on something. I've got a 5 or 6 month old cur pup running loose at the house that bays possums and cats and such all night I love listening even to that. The only time I get a huge rush is when I'm in a climbing stand or on the ground or whatever and I'm close enough to a deer or hog to throw a rock at it.
