Title: What would you do? Post by: TimmsHogDogs on December 07, 2012, 02:03:03 am So we moved across state and had to leave what dogs we had left with my husband's parents. They called today and said they aren't being hunted and they needed to know what we wanna do because there is no sense in them staying on a chain. I agree with that but we have no place to keep them.... what would you do? The dogs are 9,6,3 and we have had all of them for most of there lives so I don't know what we should do...

Title: Re: What would you do? Post by: ROCKIN ROO HOG DOGS on December 07, 2012, 06:49:31 am "What would YOU do? " was the question,so here ya go. If you want to reatain ownership of the dogs in the hopes that someday you can have them back when the time is right, then farm them out to closest friends and hunting partners. BUT.....also be understanding of the inherant risks and that ANYTHING can and will happen. Im sure if you have been in the game a while you must have someone you trust to hunt your dogs and take as good or better care than you could yourself(anything less is not an option in my eyes). I farmed all mine out last summer due to not hunting and my best strike dog of 5 years went to my most trusted friend and hunting partner. He called me distraught and emotianal because my dog had over heated and passed away the next morning. (it was by no means their first hunt since he had him,he had hunted him 30 times before this happened). It was upsetting but i never blamed or got mad,it could have happened to anybody at anytime including myself and he was doing me a favor by hunting him rather than me have him wasting away on a chain. I hope you can find a solution soon, its a a hard decision and the reality is,they may not come home, but the dogs need to hunt or retire to a backyard, life on the chain with no play is a miserable one.
